The Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has affirmed that Thiago Silva is fit and set to face Burnley on Saturday.
The Brazilian centre-back did not travel with the Blues’ for the Champions League clash against Krasnodar, partially due to the fact he had played 90 minutes in the draws against Sevilla and Manchester United.
Lampard had always been careful with handling Silva’s minutes this season, given that he is 36 years old. Lampard also confirmed it was the main reason the previous Paris Saint-Germain captain didn’t feature in Russia
In the pre-match press conference, Lampard said, “Thiago is fit. Taking him out of Russia was a maintenance issue.”
The Chelsea manager added that the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is the only fitness concern in his squad, as things stand.
He said: “Kepa has had progression in his shoulder injury. In terms of the rest, no clear injuries but a tired group that arrived back quite late.
“Will assess everyone today and tomorrow to see where we’re at.”
