Nigerian Bar Association Demands Immediate Suspension Of DSS Boss

The Nigerian Bar Association has demanded the immediate suspension of the Director-General of Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, over the style used in rearresting Omoyele Sowore in court premises. Operatives of the DSS had stormed the Federal High Court on Friday to arrest Sowore. The invasion of the courtroom forced Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu to abandon sitting and judicial activities for the day. Court Threatens To Jail DSS DG Over Failure To Release Sowore

A federal high court in Abuja has threatened to jail Yusuf Bichi, director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), over the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, and Olawale Bakare, an activist. Ijeoma Ojukwu, the judge, gave the warning on Monday. DSS Plans To File Fresh Charges Against Sowore – Falana Raises Alarm

Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has raised the alarm over plans by the Department of State Services to file fresh charges against detained pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday with a view to keeping him further in incarceration. Falana made the disclosure on Monday during a programme on Channels TV. The respected lawyer said that he will file contempt charges against the agency on Tuesday. He said the contempt proceedings is to compel the DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, to justify in court why the agency had disobeyed orders directing that his client be released.

Mr Femi Falana, SAN, counsel Mr Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to a claim by the Department of State Services (DSS) that it was not served with copies of the order directing the release of the publisher. In a telephone interview on Thursday evening, Falana, said he doubts that the statement made by the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, was authorised by the Director-General of the agency, Yusuf Bichi.
