Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Retired Veterans Protesting In Abuja

Ahead of the Armed forces Remembrance day, retired veterans that have served the Nigerian Arm forces are protesting in Abuja over their pension arrears. The ex sevice men are appealing to the federal government to approve the payment of minimum wage arrears accuring to them between 2019 till date. They are demanding the inclusion of officers who fought during the civil war on the military pension scheme. A representative of the retired soldiers Anthony Agbas who dilivered a letter to officials at the ministry of finance told Channels TV that they have fought for the country and deserve payment of their entitlement such as the debarment allowances that have been approved since 2015, and not all veterans who retired by then were not paid. Reta Mays, a former nursing assistant at a medical center for veterans in West Virginia has pleaded guilty to seven counts of second-degree murder and one count of assault with the intent to commit murder. The 46-year-old woman who appeared before a federal court on Tuesday July 14, pleaded guilty to federal murder charges in connection with a string of insulin deaths at a veterans hospital in West Virginia. Federal prosecutors had alleged that Reta Mays injected lethal doses of insulin into eight veterans at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in rural Clarksburg, causing their blood sugar levels to drop to dangerously low levels. Seven died shortly after. Twin babies died after dad left them in roasting hot car while he worked nearby

Twin babies have died after their father allegedly left them inside a roasting hot car while he went to work an eight-hour shift. Juan Rodriguez, a social worker at the Veterans Association hospital, forgot his 1-year-old daughters, Luna and Phoenix, in the backseat of his Honda Accord, which was parked in The Bronx, in New York City on July 26.   The father-of-five came back to the vehicle at 4pm after completing his 8-hour shift and found his children dead and "foaming at the mouth", the New York Post reports. The Captain’s Day celebration of the Ikeja Golf Club continued Wednesday, with professionals and veterans hitting the golf course. Already, 16 professionals and over 30 veterans were on hand to showcase their skills on the golf course. Among the professionals present were Kola Jacobson, Olu Obadina and Saliu Liman. The club captain, Bola Temowo, took part in the veterans’ category. The competition continues tomorrow, with the Ladies’ competition. At the opening of the competition on Monday, Senior Kazeem Fadesere, competing in the Caddies and Staff senior category, emerged winner with 74gross, while Junior Micheal Aquoqum won the junior Caddies and Staff category with 94gross.
