Troost-Ekong names Balogun his preferred Super Eagles defensive partner

The 26-year-old has spoken of his understanding with the Latics centre-back during national duty Udinese star William Troost-Ekong has named on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Leon Balogun as his preferred Super Eagles defensive partner. Troost-Ekong has been a key member of Nigeria national team since making his debut for the side in 2015 and now has 42 caps for the three-time African champions. The 26-year-old forged a productive partnership with Balogun at the heart of the Super Eagles defence, as they were the first-choice pairing by manager Gernot Rohr before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Full house as William Troost-Ekong and Odion Ighalo arrive in Super Eagles camp

The two players completed the 25-man preliminary team invited for the country’s Afcon preparations in Asaba Udinese centre-back William Troost-Ekong and Changchun Yatai forward Odion Ighalo have arrived in Nigeria’s training camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. The duo are the last set of players to arrive at the team’s base in Asaba as Gernot Rohr now has his full 25 players available for training. Earlier this week, the Super Eagles started preparations for the biennial showpiece with 20 players before trio of Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi and Abdullahi Shehu joined on Wednesday.

Super Eagles Begin Preparations For 2018 World Cup With Friendly Match Against Poland

The Super Eagles of Nigeria squad have stormed Poland for their pre-2018 World Cup friendly against the Polish team. Players already in camp are Troost Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Tyronne Ebuehi, Brian Idowu, Leon Balogun, Francis Uzoho, Elderson Echiejile, Stephen Eze, Joel Obi, Shehu Abdullahi, John Ogu, Moses Simon and Kenneth Omeruo.
