Governor Ortom Tests Positive for COVID19

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has tested positive for COVID-19. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Terver Akase, disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday, January 27.   “The latest result of his (governor Ortom) COVID-19 test has returned positive. This follows the test results of most of the Governor’s close aides who also returned positive in the last few weeks. Though the Governor has not shown any symptoms of the disease, he has already commenced treatment as prescribed by medical personnel.”the statement read   Akase added the Governor Ortom has advised those who have come in contact with him in the last couple of days to go for a test immediately.

Court Orders Prison To Release Zeenat, El-Zakzaky’s Wife For COVID-19 Treatment

A Kaduna state high court has asked the Kaduna correctional service to release Zeenat, wife of Ibrahim El–Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), for COVID-19 treatment. In the ruling delivered on Monday, the court asked that Zeenat be moved to a government isolation facility to begin treatment immediately. Last Thursday, Mohammed, son of the IMN leader, said his mother, Zeenat, tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kaduna correctional centre, but that the authorities refused to release her for treatment. El-Zakzaky and his wife have been in detention since 2015 after his followers clashed with soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna. The IMN leader is standing trial for alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace.

The Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH has warned that the second wave of COVID19 is easily transmittable and deadlier than the first one. Two Recovered COVID-19 Patients Discharged In Akwa-Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Government on Saturday announced that two patients have been discharged in the state following treatment and recovery from Coronavirus. The State Incident Manager and Commissioner for Health, Dr Dominic Ukpong said they were discharged after testing negative to the virus. According to Ukpong, this brings to 16, the total number of those treated and discharged since the first set of COVID-19 cases were recorded in the state on April 1, 2020. 11 Coronavirus Patient Discharged in FCT

11 Coronavirus patients have been discharged in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after recovering from the disease. FCT Minister, Malam Muhammed Bello made the announcement on Sunday May 31, via his official Twitter handle.  He further disclosed that the total number of discharged patients in the FCT is now 173. Bello tweeted;   Dear FCT residents, I am pleased to announce the successful treatment and discharge of 11 #COVID19 patients from the Isolation and Treatment Centre in the FCT. NHIS seeks approval to increase COVID-19 testing, treatment via private sector partnership

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has proposed to the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to allow it work with the private sector to increase COVID-19 testing and treatment. Also, the NHIS has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure its personnel are protected in the fight against Coronavirus. 2 Coronavirus Patients Discharged in Osun State

Two Coronavirus patients have been discharged in Osun state after recovering from the disease, testing negative twice for the virus. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, who made this known in a statement on Sunday May 24, also confirmed two new cases of Coronavirus in the state.  The two new cases bring the number of confirmed cases in the State to 44.
