There was shock on Adekunle Street in the Oshodi area of Lagos after a middle-aged man, Ifeanyi Nwagboroga, stabbed his wife, Faith Ebubeeze, several times on her body until she died over an argument bordering on money for the family. A Dutse Grade I Area Court, Abuja on Monday sentenced Nazifi Usman, an 18-year-old trader, to six months imprisonment for stealing a television set belonging to a church. The Presiding Officer, Mr Suleiman Mohammed, who tried and found the defendant guilty, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N10, 000. Mohammed held that the convict had failed to give the court a reasonable explanation why he committed the crime. The Judge also ordered that the item, which was found in possession of the convict and was in police custody, be returned to the church immediately. A Coronavirus patient who was being quarantined at one of the isolation centre in Benue State, has disappeared from the facility. The patient identified as Masefan Ayilaga is said to be a yam trader from Jootar, who recently returned from Kano State. A Federal High Court in Asaba has awarded N10m in damages against the Department of State Services for illegally detaining a trader, Anthony Okolie, for 10 weeks without charge. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, however, struck out the prayer requesting the President’s daughter, Hanan Buhari, and telecoms company, MTN, to pay N500m.Dimgba delivered his judgement on Thursday. Okolie, had sued the President’s daughter as well as the DSS and MTN over his 10-week detention after purchasing a SIM card previously owned by Hanan. The Department of State Services has said the Presidency ordered the investigation of a trader, Anthony Okolie, who was using a telephone line previously owned by the President’s daughter, Hanan Buhari. The DSS said this in a counter-affidavit in response to the originating motion filed by Okolie. The DSS position seems to be at variance with that of Hanan who had said in her own counter-affidavit that she never reported any case to the agency.
