Davido’s album hits 1 billions streams online and he shows of the award saying it has never been done before in Nigeria. A follower attacks him for making the victory sound like a competition and Obama who shared the good news was quick to respond.
The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has said the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) lied about NIPOST’s stamp duty account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
NIPOST’s General Manager Corporate Communications, Franklin Alao, said in a statement on Sunday that the NIPOST’s account with the CBN was duly opened for the purpose of stamp duty and was not illegal.
“Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) attention has been drawn to a publication by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) that NIPOST operated an illegal stamp duty account.
According to the publication, the Director of Communication and Liaison of FIRS made the statement in a series of tweets. “We hereby state categorically that the statement is false and was made to misinform and mislead members of the public,” Alao said.
He said the account the Director of Communication of FIRS made reference to as “illegal” was opened by the Central Bank of Nigeria under the Treasury Single Account (TSA) in consultation with the office of Accountant General of the Federation, in the name of NIPOST Stamp Duties Collection Account when CBN gave instruction to Deposit Money Banks (DMB) to commence the deduction of #50 stamp duties from bank customers accounts.
He said: ” The account belongs to the Federation and NIPOST does not have access to whatsoever monies lodged into the account, as such the question of illegality and misappropriation does not arise.”
He reinstated that NIPOST Act 2004 provides and vest solely in NIPOST the power to print adhesive postage stamps, which is the instrument for denoting documents and other transaction instruments in compliance with the provisions of the Stamp Duties Act.
After former Mavin star, Tiwa Savage insinuated that she wasn’t protected enough by her fans in Nigeria, A Twitter user with the handle @bidemi_brooke has taken a hard swipe at music star.
An online user @Lolly_funk had tweeted: “Nigerian women are always pulling Tiwa Savage down woow… She’s one of the few African women who put the continent on the map but the disrespect she receives from these women is disgusting” to which Tiwa Savage responded: “It’s always been like that, I doubt it will ever change. Maybe I for just jeje dey yankee dey sing my rnb because I see how hard the Rihanna navy, beehives, barbs protect their own.”
That comment has caused an uproar on Twitter with some accusing her of not doing enough to earn the respect that she craved.
Replying to Tiwa Savage’s comment, @bidemi_brooke wrote: “Tiwa the truth is that most women that know their onions do not respect you. You have offered nothing asides from your music which gets you money. As a woman, top 5 biggest female artists out of Africa, what have you done to uplift women, you have no voice. No cause. Nothing.”
Tiwa Savage had in 2019 been accused of preventing other females from performing at a show by then Chocolate City singee, Victoria Kimani, who stated that Savage had told the show promoters that she wasn’t going to perform at their show if she wasn’t the only female.
That allegation was later said to be false, with Kimani issuing an apology, but there have continued to be rumours in some quarters that Tiwa Savage had hindered the growth of some female stars, although no evidence was ever shown.

Short moment ago, Nigerian Singer, Davido denied taking Sophia Momodu on a vacation to Ghana, saying he only gave her a life. This clearly hasn’t gone down well with his first baby mama.
For days now, there had been numerous reports that the Nigerian singer, took his baby mama on a vacation to Ghana, ignoring his girlfriend, Chioma.
The singer took it upon himself to deny the reports, stating that it would make no sense for him to take Sophia Momodu on vacation, since he recently proposed to Chioma.
He added that he only gave Sophia a lift, and urging the media to quit making false reports about him. He wrote;
“I just want to drop a quick comment on the silly blogs headlines I’ve been seeing circulate about me ‘taking the mother of my first child on holiday to Ghana’ and really wish y’all would quit with it.
You ALL know very well I recently proposed to my girlfriend Chioma recently and it would make no sense whatsoever for me to be doing such.
My daughter’s mom had business in Ghana with Afrochella selling Imade’s hair products at stalls and I obviously was booked to perform at Afronation. I simply gave her a lift to Ghana for the sake of Imade who I didn’t want left in Lagos without her mom. It was either that or she fly economy.
I do not understand why y’all would spread such rumors you know would do nothing but hurt my fiancé and disrespect her family. 2020 positive energy only. Get with it!”
Sophia Momodu is not utterly pleased with his statement, has she took to both Snapchat and Twitter to tackle Davido.
Reacting to the singer’s claim, Sophia Momodu posted a photo with her daughter, Imade at the airport and wrote;
“Entering 2020 jst how I like it.. with my best girl & on the move #2020WeMoveNoMatterWhat #BreakingLimits #WeFlyFirstOrBuisnessClass 殺”
She also reacted angrily on Snapchat, clearly stating that she never asked for a lift from the singer.
The presidency has again asked the U.S. to stop interfering in Nigeria’s matters.
Femi Adesina, the spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed this while reacting to a U.S. report that includes Nigeria as one of the countries with religious freedom violations.
He appeared on Channels Television “Sunday Politics” programme.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how the U.S. placed Nigeria in the same category as Russia, Cuba and Uzbekistan for its attitude towards religious freedom.
The inclusion of Nigeria on the list was announced by the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo. They made reference to the killings of Shiite protesters and the violence in Nigeria’s middle belt as some of the reasons for its stance.
In its earlier reaction on Sunday, Nigeria government through Minister of Information, Lai Muhammad described the stance of the U.S. as an “orchestrated narrative that has long been discredited”.
The government also blamed the ‘political opposition’ for sparing “no resources in deriving political capital from the various security challenges in the country.”
However, rather than respond to the allegations in the report on Sunday, President Buhari through his spokesperson, Mr Adesina blasted the U.S. government for speaking about Nigeria.
“In international relations, you respect the internal affairs of other countries. The U.S. itself has enough to chew solving its own problems not to talk of poke-nosing into that of another country.”
“No man, no country, nobody has appointed them the policeman of the world, let them face their own issues”, Mr Adesina said.
PREMIUM TIMES recalls that this is not the first time Mr Adesina will be accusing the foreign governments of poke-nosing into Nigeria’s matter.
On December 12, this newspaper reported how he warned the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union to stop interfering in Nigeria’s affairs, especially on the issue of human rights abuses.
Femi Falana, senior of advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says lawyers waited to receive Omoyele Sowore at the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) after a court order to release him was served.
The DSS had on Friday said it received the order to free the convener of the Revolution Now movement, but there was no one to stand on his behalf.
But in a statement, Falana, lead counsel to Sowore, said the DSS statement is misleading as the agency already told the lawyers that Sowore would be released.
“On 6/11/19 the bailiff of the federal high court wanted to serve the reproduction warrants issued by the court on the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS). But the SSS asked the Bailiff to call back at 10.00 am on 7/11/19. The bailiff did and was able to serve the reproduction warrants on the DG of the SSS,” he said.
“Upon acknowledging the service of the reproduction warrants the SSS assured the bailiff and five lawyers from the defence team that our clients would be released yesterday. But the SSS decided not to release our clients to our lawyers who waited in vain in the agency’s headquarters for not less than 4 hours.
“When Sowore said that he would not make a statement without first consulting with me the SSS management called me on phone on 6/8/19. Assuming the SSS had wanted to release our clients since yesterday the management would have contacted me.
“It is pertinent to point out that the meaning of reproduction warrant issued by a trial court is that the defendants be produced for the purpose of releasing them having met their bail conditions. In the instant case, the
federal high court did not order the SSS to hand over Messrs Sowore and Bakare to any person but to produce them for the purpose of releasing them having met the suffocating bail conditions imposed on them by the trial court.
“Even though the SSS disobeyed the order of the Honourable Justice Taiwo for the release of Mr. Sowore on 24/9/19 it has turned round to announce its readiness to comply with the order of the Honourable Justice Ifeoma Ojukwu for the release of Sowore and Bakare from illegal custody.”
He added that lawyers from his firm have been directed to contact the DSS on Saturday for the release of Sowore.
He also urged Sowore to call off his hunger strike.
Sowore has been in DSS detention since August when he was arrested for planning a nationwide protest.
Manchester United winger Daniel James is not afraid of receiving some “rough treatment” in his first season in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old was subjected to some tough tackling in the 2-1 International Champions Cup win over Tottenham, twice by Moussa Sissoko, and Mauricio Pochettino apologised for his team’s behaviour after the match.
James was also something of a target in pre-season wins over Inter and Perth Glory, his pace causing particular problems during what has been an impressive first few weeks as a United player.
THE pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, yesterday, berated a Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, for describing leaders of the group as noisemakers.
Mohammed, in an interview with a national newspaper (not Vanguard), had accused some leaders of Afenifere of making provocative statements.
He said the Yoruba leaders learned no lesson from the Biafran war, describing them as “noisemakers” who will be the first to flee if war breaks out.
But Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, described Mohammed’s remarks as unfortunate, saying “Dr. Junaid Mohammed is the greatest noise maker from Arewa land.” Odumakin said: “What is so pathetic is that his house is not rhythmic. He shouts here today and blows there tomorrow. He makes all manners of reckless comments against other groups without restrains. “It is unfortunate that a brilliant person like him is devoting his intellect to negative causes most of the times.”
The Presidency on Friday tackled former Vice President and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over his comments on the Supreme Court judgement affirming the election of Mr Gboyega Oyetola as governor of Osun State.
Commenting on the judgement, Atiku, in a statement, had said: “I urge the nation’s judiciary to take a pulse of the nation and reflect it.
“In their hands, God has placed a great responsibility. The duty to ensure that justice is done, irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise by the powers that be.”
But the Presidency, in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, said that it found Atiku’s reaction very ridiculous, and comical.
The statement reads: “Many things fly in the face of logic, reason, and legality in this portion of the statement.
“Alhaji Abubakar urged the judiciary to reflect the pulse of the nation in their judgments.
“Learned people know that the judiciary comes to conclusions drawing from matters of law placed before it, and not sentiments, or so-called “pulse of the nation.”
“A pertinent question is: how does the judiciary gauge the pulse of the nation? Is it even positioned to do such? Is the judiciary established for that purpose, or to dispense justice, even if the heavens fall?
“Again, there is insinuation of inducement in the statement when the PDP candidate said the judiciary should ensure justice is done, ‘irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise by the powers that be.’
“We see this as an attempt to browbeat the judiciary, thus causing it to entertain sentiment in the ongoing petition on the presidential election before the tribunal.
“If anybody has the tendency or proclivity to put pressure on the judiciary, Nigerians knows where the finger points, and it is definitely not at President Muhammadu Buhari.
“This was a man who had thrice taken his electoral challenges to the judiciary, up to the Supreme Court, and not once was he accused of trying to influence the process, or put pressure on the courts.
“When the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost Zamfara and Rivers states, arising from judicial proclamations then, there was no “pressure to do otherwise, by the powers that be.
“But now that the victory of the party in Osun was upheld, there is insinuation of pressure from those who have never learnt to play straight.”
According to him, President Buhari has always been committed to fair play, which he noted was clearly evident in the last general elections.
Buhari, he said, remains committed to even-handedness and justice always.
The Pan Yoruba Socio-political group, Afenifere, has carpeted Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, over his claim that the ongoing insecurity in the country particularly kidnapping and banditry were being exaggerated by Nigerians.
The General Assembly of the group on Tuesday at the Akure home of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, who berated Prof. Osinbajo over the comment made on Sunday while addressing some Nigerians in New York, maintained that the growing trends of insecurity in the country is an indication of a failed state, particularly with the recent security alerts issued by the United Kingdom and United States of America to their citizens over security threats in most parts of the country.
While stating that the development calls for concern, the group stressed that it does not reflect truthfulness on the part of the Vice-President as “Yorubaland is Still Under Siege” as well the continued “traumatization of our people by Fulani herdsmen/kidnappers/militia all across the Six states in the zone as well as Kwara and Kogi States.”
Recall that the Vice President had during a town hall meeting in New York on Sunday evening while responding to questions and comments as regards “high rate of killings and kidnappings” in the country stated that, “With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country, again, this is not entirely new. In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fuelled by politics.
At the meeting, Osinbajo added that, “There are cases of kidnapping, no question at all about that, but some of the more dramatic stories that you hear are simply not true.”
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin who signed the communiqué after the meeting, Afenifere, “frowned at this unfortunate comments by the Vice President who shames the Yoruba people with his very cheap politicking with the lives of Nigerians.”
The communiqué read in parts, “All the reports provided clear indications of failure of state as the security forces have largely incapable or unwilling to safeguard the lives of our people against these Criminals as we are not aware of any of them that has been arrested or is under trial at the moment just as all the Federal Government has done so far is to make excuses for the Boko Haram and Miyetti Allah groups that have been accused of so many crimes against the people of Nigeria.
“It is against this backdrop that the meeting was scandalized by the opportunistic and provocative utterances of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in NewYork on Sunday dismissing the danger we are faced with in Yorubaland as well as by other zones in Nigeria as being “politically motivated.”
“As if he is unaware that we are in a digital world, which explains why America and Britain have issued travel directives to their citizens not travel to more than 2/3 of Nigeria, the VP without much thought for his integrity stated “With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country ,again, this is not entirely new. In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fueled by politics.”
Afenifere added that even the presidency cannot shy away from the pervading insecurity in country particularly as it affects the president’s hometown, Daura as well as dignitaries across the country.
“Is the report of the kidnap of a District Head from President Buhari’s town from May 1 till date politically motivated? And was the President speaking of another country when he handed kidnappers on rampage to God?
“Was former Health Minister, Prof Isaac Adewole playing politics when it was announced that his son was kidnapped ?
“What politics was afoot when the Ondo State Governor recently announced that his convoy was waylaid by kidnappers?
“If he cannot answer these questions, he should kneel before his God and ask for forgiveness for violating “Thou shall not lie” commandment .We further admonish him not to allow whatever ambition and political interest he serves to push him to make such infuriating comments as the No 2 man in the country again.
“As a people who cannot continue to bear what is going on, and we believe it is so with so many communities in Nigeria, meeting made the following demands:
The group however called on President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw from his position as the Patron of Miyetti Allah if he his sincere of tackling the issue of herdsmen attacks in the country.
“We restate our earlier call on Mr. President to separate the office of the President of Nigeria which he occupies from being also the grand patron of Miyetti Allah which we suspect makes it very difficult for security agents to go after members of this group whenever they commit or are accused of crimes.
“There must be immediate enforcement of law and order as an urgent measure to flush out these criminal elements from our society .
“There must be immediate steps taken to rework Nigeria to take it back to the practice of FEDERALISM so that every federating unit can have their police to secure their environment.
“In order to cut the production line of criminals and bandits we must have the practice of Federalism in many key spheres especially the economy so that all units must have the rights to tap whatever is under their soil so that new corridors of prosperity are created to eradicate the massive unemployment in the county so we can cease to be the headquarters of poverty.”
This Is Real Madness I Have Ever Seen In Football! Pitch Invader Ran On The Pitch, Chile Player Tackles Him, Suarez Ran To Referee To Book Him.
Meanwhile in the Copa America. A pitch invader ran on the pitch with a chicken mask, kept sprinting around the players and then Chilean player Gonzalo Jara decided to tackle him.
This happened last night during Uruguay vs Chile. Luis Suarez ran to the referee to tell him to book the opponent for kicking a pitch invader running on the field.
A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and the Church of Satan clashed on Twitter on Monday over a former New York City prosecutor, Linda Fairstein.
Fani-Kayode had taken to his social media handle to lambast Fairstein who led the prosecution of the Central Park Five case, wherein five teenagers, four African-American and one Hispanic, were wrongfully convicted for the 1989 rape and assault in Central Park of a white female jogger.
Earlier this week, it was speculated that Herve Renard’s side are set to trade tackles with Nigeria.
However, Rohr has now cleared the air, stating that the tune-up encounter cannot be fixed into their plans.
“It was about organising this friendly match, but unfortunately it can not be done,” Rohr told Medias 24.
Last week, the Nigeria Football Federation released pre-AFCON plans for the Super Eagles, confirming friendly matches against Zimbabwe and Senegal.
Camping ahead of the tournament begins on June 2.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied receiving N10million donation from Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to organise anti-corruption marathon.
Earlier today, a statement by the Mr Ganduje’s spokesman, Aminu Yassar, said the governor had donated the money to EFCC, ICPC and Athletic Federation of Nigeria for the anti-corruption campaign.
But in a swift reaction by the spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, the commission distanced itself from receiving any donation from the state governor.
“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a trending story in the social media concerning a purported statement credited to the media aide of the Kano State governor to the effect that the Commission got a N10 Million donation from the state government.
“The story is not falsehood, but a deliberate attempt to malign the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption.
“For the records, it is a tradition that the EFCC does not receive donations from state governors/government or any individual at that.
“The EFCC, as a reputable anti-graft agency is sponsored by federal government through budgetary allocation and in some cases, foreign organisations in terms of capacity building.
“It is true that the Commission, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crimes, ICPC and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN and other stakeholders is organizing the first National Anti-Corruption Marathon.
“Mr. Jacob Onu, the leader of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon had in the course of his visit to the Commission a fortnight ago told the Acting Chairman and his management about the marathon which he said is being planned in tandem with the International Anti-Corruption Day which usually comes up on December 9 every year.
“He said it was aimed at raising national consciousness on the scourge and danger of corruption to the country and the need for all and sundry to join hands to eradicate it.
“It is therefore very shocking to read of a purported donation of N10 million to the Commission.
“The story is not only unfounded but very mischievous.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no state governor or some other individual or group has donated any amount of money to the EFCC to carry out the Anti-corruption Marathon project or any other project for that matter,” the statement read.
Son in-law of Governor Rochas Okorocha and governorship hopeful, Uche Nwosu, has slammed the National chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, for cancelling the state party primary where he emerged the party’s governorship candidate for the 2019 election.
Nwosu was reacting to the statement of Oshiomhole after his (Nwosu) name was dropped for Senator Hope Uzodinma as the governorship candidate of APC in Imo state.
In a statement released, Nwosu who is married to Imo sate Governor, Okorocha’s daughter and was being prepared to take over office come 2019, accused Oshiomole of working against his emergence as the next governor and
“The insinuation by the National Chairman that my ambition suffered setback because of the ambition of the Governor Rochas Okorocha is not true. My name is Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and not Rochas Okorocha. I am from Nkwerre Local Government Area, while he is from Ideato South LGA; there are two different things, if he has ambition to run for Senate and I have ambition to run for governor, so it doesn’t tally at all.
“After all Oshiomhole’s son is a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, whom he nominated and he is the Chairman of the party and he is saying that Okorocha’s Senatorial ambition scuttled my governorship, he is a man that is supposed to speak rightly and not deceive the people on air. I saw him on the television when he was talking from both sides of his mouth, it is a pity that APC could have such a man as its National Chairman, I condemn his action and it is not acceptable”.
“The same Ibrahim Agbabiaka Committee that conducted the governorship primary that Oshiomole is referring to as purported, is still the same Committee that conducted the National and State Assembly primaries, so how can you jettison the report of that same Committee.
Nwosu stated that he is in the race to be the next governor of the state.
“We are not deterred, I am still in the race, if Oshiomhole thinks that he is a tin god at the secretariat that he can truncate people’s ambition, then my answer to him is that he is not God, he cannot stop my ambition, he cannot stop a divine mandate, he cannot stop the mandate of the people.
“I want to assure my teeming supporters that we are on the right course, nothing can stop us, not even Oshiomhole. I am the right candidate and we will emerge victorious at the end of the day. I am very confident that I will be the next governor of the state in 2019,” he added.
