Adekunle Okunuga, Nigerian Doctor Suspended In 2015 For Flogging Son In UK Reinstated

A Nigerian consultant anaesthetist Adekunle Okunuga based in the United Kingdom has been reinstated following his suspension from work for beating his son. The 59-year-old medical personnel, who was arrested after the incident in June 2014, blamed his cultural upbringing in Nigeria for the act, Daily Mail UK reports. He said corporal punishments are common in Nigeria. Okunuga caned his son for misbehaving in school and made him stand one leg with his arms in the air while he kicked him. He also caned the boy’s open palms with a walking stick. China has locked down a city of 11 million people in its northern province of Hebei, in order to contain the country's worst coronavirus flare-up in months. Residents of Shijiazhuang, a provincial capital close to Beijing, have been barred from leaving the city, as major highways were blocked, train and bus stations closed and flights canceled. The lockdown comes as a total of 117 Covid-19 infections including 67 asymptomatic cases were detected in Shijiazhuang on Wednesday. On Thursday, Shijiazhuang identified another 66 positive cases, according to the Hebei provincial health commission. Lagos State Government Suspends the Reopening of Churches and Mosques

Lagos state governor, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, has suspended the planned reopening of religious centers in the state. Recall that on June 4, the state governor announced that religious centers will be allowed to open for worship provided they follow the COVID-19 guidelines. He said Mosques will be allowed to resume worship on June 19 while churches in the state will be allowed to conduct services from Sunday, June 21. However at a press briefing this afternoon, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the reopening of worship centers has been suspended. He said the decision is based on the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. With 7319 confirmed cases, Lagos state has remained the epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
