Drug-Smuggling Cat Caught With Heroin, SIM Card Jailed, Escapes From Sri Lanka Prison

A cat detained at Sri Lanka's main prison while allegedly trying to smuggle drugs and cell phone SIM cards has escaped, media reports said Monday.The feline was detected by jail intelligence officials on Saturday at the high-security Welikada Prison, a police official said.He said nearly two grams of heroin, two SIM cards and a memory chip were found in a small plastic bag tied around the cat's neck.But it escaped on Sunday from a prison room where it was kept, the Aruna newspaper said.There was no immediate comment from prison authorities.The prison had reported an increase in incidents of people throwing small packets of drugs, cell phones and phone chargers over the walls in recent weeks.Sri Lanka is battling a major drug problem with some anti-narcotics detectives also implicated ...

Court Dismisses DSS Application to Set Aside President Buhari’s Daughter’s SIM Card Judgement Debt

  The Federal High Court in Asaba on Wednesday July 8, struck out the Department of State Services' application to stop payment of a N10 million judgement debt issued against it in a case involving President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan. The money was awarded to Anthony Okolie after he dragged the agency to court for violating his fundamental human rights over an MTN SIM card that was once used by Hanan. Sim Card: Anthony Okolie Gives DSS 24 Hours To Pay ₦10 Million Damages

Delta- based trader, Anthony Okolie, has written a letter to the Department of State Services demanding the payment of N10 million to him as ordered by a Federal High Court in Asaba last week . Justice Nnamdi Dimgba had last week ordered the DSS to pay Okolie N 10m for illegally detaining him for 10 weeks after purchasing a SIM card previously owned by the President’s daughter , Hanan Buhari. In a letter addressed to the Director - General of the DSS , Yusuf Bichi , the trader said a cheque of N 10 million must be issued to him within 24 hours. A Federal High Court in Asaba has awarded N10m in damages against the Department of State Services for illegally detaining a trader, Anthony Okolie, for 10 weeks without charge. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, however, struck out the prayer requesting the President’s daughter, Hanan Buhari, and telecoms company, MTN, to pay N500m.Dimgba delivered his judgement on Thursday. Okolie, had sued the President’s daughter as well as the DSS and MTN over his 10-week detention after purchasing a SIM card previously owned by Hanan. The Nigerian Communications Commission and the Nigerian Postal Service are to collaborate in verifying the addresses of SIM card owners in the country. The two agencies also agreed to work out a Memorandum of Understanding on ways to facilitate financial inclusion in the country. The managements of the two establishments met at the NCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, where it was also agreed that the commission and the postal service would collaborate on driving the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda. A trader, Anthony Okolie, who was arrested by the Department of State Services and detained for 10 weeks, has sued the DSS for N500m. Operatives of Nigeria’s Department of State Service allegedly arrested and detained a man Anthony Okolie for purchasing a sim card that was previously used by Hannan, a daughter of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari. Okolie told The Guardian on Monday that he bought the MTN mobile phone sim card in 2018, two years before his arrest. He was arrested on Monday, July 22 at Nnedisi Road, Asaba, Delta State. Okolie was taken to Abuja by the DSS operatives and was kept in custody until his release in December 2019. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that registration of new Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards will now require the presentation of the National Identity Number (NIN).NCC, which said the enforcement of the new rule takes effect soon, noted that the move became necessary following the rising criminality in the country. (Reuters/NAN) Rwanda’s telecom industry regulator has fined MTN Rwanda, a division of South Africa’s MTN Group, 7 billion francs (8.5 million dollars) for running its IT services outside the country in breach of its licence. The regulator said in a ruling posted on its website in Kigali that MTN Rwanda was hosting its IT services hub in Uganda, which it had prohibited. “They are punished for relocating their IT services outside Rwanda, and this was deliberate,’’ Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority Spokesman Anthony Kulamba said.
