Fayemi Reveals Why Governors Insist On Creation Of State Police In Nigeria

Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday declared that the quest for the creation of state police by some governors, groups and individuals in the country was not intended to undermine the existing Federal Police, the Nigeria Police Force. Fayemi, who is also the Governor of Ekiti State made this declaration while speaking at a security summit, tagged, “Stakeholders’ security summit: Focus on Western Nigeria” held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. South-West Governors Invite Army, Police, OPC To Security Summit

Governors of states in the South-West have reached out to the army, police and other security agencies on the need to redouble their efforts to stop atrocities being perpetrated by armed herdsmen and other criminals in the region. The Commissioner for Information in Ekiti State, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua, told one of our correspondents on Saturday that Governor Kayode Fayemi had reached out to the police and other security agencies in the state on the issue. Herdsmen, Farmers Crisis: Presidency, National Assembly Hold Security Summit

Senate Suspends Plenary, To Holds Security Summit

The Senate says it suspend plenary next Wednesday and Thursday to hold a summit on the security situation in some parts of the country. The red chamber also called for a high powered delegation in conjunction with State Governments to resolve the conflict for harmonious existence. It also urged the Federal Government to deploy more security personnel to the affected areas. These resolutions were sequel to a motion sponsored by Sen. Shuaibu Lau (PDP-Taraba) on the conflict between herdsmen and farmers in parts of Taraba.
