US federal agency pays record breaking $114 million to whistleblower

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has awarded a staggering record breaking $114 million to a whistleblower who tipped the government off to misconduct and provided "extraordinary" assistance in an investigation, the agency has announced.   The record breaking sum doubles the prior SEC whistleblower record, which was set just four months ago. According to the SEC, the whistleblower initially reported the wrongdoing internally to the company involved, all to no avail. The appointment of a former director of the central bank of Nigeria, Lamido Yuguda as the director-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been confirmed by the Nigerian senate. Appointments of Reginald Karausa, Ibrahim Boyi, and Obi Joseph as full-time commissioners of the agency were also confirmed by the lawmakers following a report presented by the chairman of Senate capital market committee, Ibikunle Amosun (APC, Ogun). Whistleblower Gets Over $500,000 For Exposing Misconduct In His Company

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday announced that a company insider has earned a whistleblower award of more than $500,000 for reporting information that prompted a SEC investigation into well-hidden misconduct that resulted in a SEC enforcement action. “This company employee saw something wrong and did the right thing by reporting what turned out to be hard-to-detect violations of the securities laws,” said Jane Norberg, Chief of the SEC’s Office of the Whistleblower. “Company insiders are in a unique position to provide specific information that allows us to better protect investors and the marketplace. We encourage insiders with information to bring it to our attention.” The whistleblower award is the second announced by the SEC in the past week. ...

Finally, AMCON Sells Keystone Bank

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on Monday announced Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited (the Sigma Golf-Riverbank consortium) as the new investors that have acquired the entire issued and fully paid up ordinary shares of Keystone Bank Limited, formerly BankPHB Plc. This followed the receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). AMCON in a statement on Monday explained that the completion of the transaction was subject to the fulfillment of the conditions precedent as stated in the Share Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) executed between AMCON and the Sigma Golf-Riverbank consortium.
