‘Ferguson killed me!’ – Nani was ‘scared’ of Man Utd boss

The Portugal international viewed the legendary Scottish manager as a father figure but he struggled to communicate with his boss at first Nani has admitted that he was initially "scared" of Sir Alex Ferguson, revealing that the former Manchester United boss once "killed" him and Ryan Giggs in front of their team-mates. Nani arrived at Old Trafford in 2007 from Sporting CP and struggled for a long time with the language barrier. However, the winger knew just how angry Ferguson was with him after a missed penalty against Fulham in 2010. Giggs was on spot-kick duty that day at Craven Cottage but the in-form Nani took it upon himself to try to make it 3-1 to United. Unfortunately, the Portuguese winger missed and, to compound his disappointment, Fulham then snatched a point w...

Nigeria Liverpool Loanee in Showdown with Gerrard

Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria is about now holding showdown talks with Rangers coach Steven Gerrard over his future at the Scottish Premiership side. The former Golden Eaglets invitee was not in Rangers’ travelling party to the Austrian capital for the Europa League matchday six fixture against Rapid Vienna fuelling speculation that all is not well with the player. Sky Sports has suggested that Ejaria is not in the good books of Gerrard because he turned up late for training in the build-up to the Group G clash against Villarreal at Ibrox a fortnight ago. ”Ovie is slightly unsettled at the moment, I spoke to him a couple of days ago,” Gerrard said ahead of Thursday’s match against Rapid Vienna. “We decided it was best to leave him at home and the plan is to talk to Ovie on Fri...

From Celtic Dismay To Malia Joy: Robertson’s Journey To Anfield

It was a Friday night in Scotland’s central belt in 2010. The Scottish Football League contingent of Queen’s Park’s U17s squad - effectively a second team to the Scottish Premier League cohort - had travelled to face their Stirling Albion counterparts. Following the promotion of a teammate to the SPL squad, Robertson had been named in the starting XI in his preferred position of left-back, rather than the left-midfield role he had occupied for much of the season. He takes up the story with Liverpoolfc.com, recalling vividly: “My dad came and watched me - mum couldn’t make it because of work. “I scored a goal from left-back and played really well and from that I went from next step to next step for Queen’s Park and everybody started noticing me again. “After that game I kind of ...

Unai Emery: Champions League Is a Big Objective For PSG

PSG signed Brazil's Neymar for a world record fee of 222 million euros ($265.40 million) during the off-season and also recruited Kylian Mbappe on loan from AS Monaco. PSG have never won the Champions League title, nor made the semi-finals since 1995, but expectations have risen since they were bought by Qatari Sports Investment in 2011 and won four of their six Ligue 1 titles since then. They have not, however, progressed beyond the quarter-finals in Europe's premier intercontinental club competition since the acquisition and Emery said those results now take precedence. "I know it is a big objective for the club, but we are doing and feeling well, the players are doing well but I know it will be difficult," Emery told reporters ahead of their clash with Scottish champions Celtic. "I ...

Hibernian To Sanction Efe Ambrose For Missing Pre-Season

Nigeria defender Efe Ambrose will most likely be sanctioned by his Scottish club Hibernian after he failed to resume for the pre-season training, his coach Neil Lennon has disclosed. The manager said Ambrose was given an extended summer break, but Lennon revealed he can’t get in touch with the player who ought to have returned to work by now. “There’s no sign of Efe, so he is in a bit of trouble. I can’t get a hold of him at all. He was given a wee bit of time off but he is pushing the boundaries now,” Lennon reported. “The sooner he is back, for his sake, the better. “It will be discussed behind closed doors so he’s got that to look forward to when he gets back.” The former Celtic player has missed all of Hibernian’s pre-season games. Ambrose signed a two-year deal after...

Oshianwa Alleges Top Official Hounded Him Out Of Hearts

Nigeria World Cup defender Juwon Oshaniwa has revealed he was hounded out of Scottish club Hearts by a powerful official who was involved in his transfer from Israel two years ago. Oshaniwa, 26, has now quit Hearts by mutual consent after two seasons, a year before the expiration of his contract. The AFCON 2013 winner had a great time in his first season with Hearts, helping them to clinch Europa League ticket, but was surprisingly kept on bench for all of the 2016/2017 season. Oshaniwa has now alleged that he did not play a single game last season because of the undue influence of a top Hearts official. “I had a very great season in the first year and so everyone was surprised the way I was treated in the just-ended season,” the leftback said. “I suffered for the sin of a c...

Cristiano Ronaldo will put speculation over his club future firmly to one side as he leads European champions Portugal into their Confederations Cup opener against Mexico in Kazan on Sunday. The 32-year-old Real Madrid superstar’s build-up to the tournament in Russia has been overshadowed after he was this week accused by prosecutors in Spain of defrauding the authorities of 14.7 million euros ($16.5m) in tax through offshore companies. Now the Madrid sports media is awash with headlines suggesting Ronaldo wants out of the Spanish champions, despite only signing a new contract through to 2021 in November. But for the next two weeks the main thing on the mind of the reigning Ballon d’Or holder is winning more silverware in the eight-nation World Cup warm-up event. “He takes this...

Mr Evans fetched his 91-year-old Scottish grandfather who lives nearby and took him along to witness the capture. "He's about the only family member of mine that can actually watch me work with black mambas," he said. At the house Mr Evans carefully entered the bedroom where the black mamba was hiding. He opened a cupboard and saw a portion of the snake’s body on top of a box. "I stuck my head closer, when I suddenly got a bad feeling. Then in the corner of my eye, I n...

British Parliament Backs Brexit

The British Parliament has passed a bill that will allow Prime Minister Theresa May to start talks to leave the European Union. The House of Commons rejected changes to the bill on Monday and then sent it back to the upper chamber for them to vote again. The House of Lords voted not to insist on its original amendments giving protections to EU citizens in a post-Brexit Britain and calling for a "meaningful vote" on any divorce deal. Instead the Lords passed the House of Commons' original proposals and the Queen will now sign the bill into law. That clears the way for May to trigger Article 50, beginning the process by which Britain will give up its membership of the European Union. Scotland to split away? Earlier Monday, the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, said she wou...
