Mixed reactions have greeted the N500 million donation by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to Sokoto State. Five Nigerian states will get a refund of over one hundred and forty-eight billon naira (N148,141,969,161.24) for road projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government. Police uncover baby factory, rescue 19 pregnant girls

Lagos State Police Command has rescued 19 pregnant girls, between the age of 15 and 28, from a ‘baby factory’ at Ayanwale area of Ikotun. Two female suspects – 40-year-old Happiness Ukwuoma and 54-year-old Sherifat Ipeya – involved in the scandal, were arrested. The pregnant women were brought from Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Abia and Imo states. The Command has launched a manhunt of the principal suspect, Madam Oluchi from Mbano, Imo State. The victims were mostly abducted for the purpose of getting them pregnant and selling the babies to potential buyers. They were tricked with employment as domestic staff in Lagos. However, they are often held hostage on getting to Lagos. The babies are sold for N300,000 and N500,000 depending on the gender.

Abducted Rivers Monarch Regains Freedom

The Rivers state monarch, Eze Edison Omeodu of Omofe Rundele in Emohua local government area of Rivers, who was kidnapped last week by some unknown gunmen has regained his freedom. Confirming his release, his wife, Dr. Nnenda Omeodu, said a ransom was paid to secure the monarch’s release. Eze Edison Omeodu was abducted along with his driver on Friday, July 5 at the Emohua axis of East-West while on his way back from Port Harcourt. Domestic Debts Of 36 States, FCT Hit N3.5trn In H1’18

The Debt Management Office (DMO), yesterday, said the domestic debt stock of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stood at N3.5 trillion as at the first half of 2018 (H1’18). The figure indicates that the states and FCT increased their debt stock by about N200 billion or 6.0 percent over the N3.3 trillion recorded at the end of December 2017. According to data released by DMO on its website, Lagos State has the highest debt stock at N517 billion or 17 percent of the total debt stock of states. NCDC: Lassa Fever Death Toll Rises To 101

The death toll from the Lassa fever disease ravaging the country since the beginning of the year has risen to 101, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said. The health agency, in its situation report of April 8, said 408 cases of the disease had been confirmed from 20 states, where the disease has been active. The states are Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory, with Edo, Ondo and Ebonyi having the highest reported cases. Lassa Fever Death Toll Hits 31 In 15 States

Health minister Isaac Adewole Monday announced that the outbreak of Lassa fever has spread to 15 states, recording 31 deaths. He added that there had been 105 laboratory confirmed cases and three probable cases. Nigeria: Transport Fare Increased By 23.99 Percent In December – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) says the average transport fare paid by commuters across the country increased by 23.99 percent in December 2017. The Bureau disclosed this in its monthly Transport Fare Watch released on Wednesday. It said the average fare for bus journey within the cities across Nigeria increased by 23.99% month-on-month and 14.78% year-on-year to N171.34 in December 2017 from N138.19 in November 2017. A top official of the State Security Service, SSS, on Wednesday revealed how Don Waney, an alleged kidnap kingpin, was tracked to his hideout in Enugu. Mr. Waney allegedly masterminded the killings of 23 worshipers on New Year’s Day, in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers. The Federal Government has demolished a multi-million naira mansion belonging to the slain Niger Delta militant and notorious kidnapper, Don Waney. APM Terminals Apapa Limited has waived the handling and storage charges estimated to be millions of naira on a container of fish donated by the Federal Government to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe.
