Teachers of Primary and secondary schools in Rivers State Government-owned tertiary institutions have cried out over the non-payment of their salaries running into five years. Rivers state government has released new guidelines on how burial ceremonies will henceforth be conducted in the state adding that defaulters of these new guidelines will have to pay a fine of N10 million. The Rivers State Government has warned fishing communities against eating or selling dead fishes found floating in rivers of Finima in Bonny LGA and Oyorokoto in Andoni LGA. The affected fish species is croaker, popularly known as ‘Broke Marriage’ and called ‘Onah’ in Ibani dialect. Rivers State Government has said it would spend about N1.5 billion in celebrating the state’s 50th anniversary. It, however, said the bulk of the funds would be provided by the private sector. The Alternate Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary Committee, Chief Onueze Okocha (SAN), who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, said they have already realised over N1 billion through donations from private donors. “We have a budget of N1.5 billion for the celebration, most of which is expected to be raised from private donors.
