Trump’s Tulsa rally draws smaller crowd

U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempt to revive his re-election campaign sputtered badly on Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma as he attracted a far smaller crowd than his aides had promised him,. Then he delivered a disjointed speech that did not address the multiple crises facing the nation or scandals battering him in Washington, the New York Times reported. The weakness of Mr. Trump’s drawing power and political skills, in a state that voted for him overwhelmingly and in a format that he favours, raised new questions about his electoral prospects for a second term at a time when his poll numbers were already falling. In recent days senior military figures have spoken out publicly against the president since peaceful protesters were forcefully removed from the Lafayette Square area near the White House to clear a path so Trump and his entourage could safely walk to St. John’s Episcopal Church. The president’s military critics have included former Defense Secretary James Mattis, retired four-star Marine Corps Gen. John Allen and former Secretary of State Colin Powell. A Black Lives Matter protester has tested positive for Coronavirus after attending a rally attended by 10,000 people in Melbourne, sparking fears of second wave of the virus in Australia. The man in his 30s reportedly marched with thousands through the city on Saturday and developed symptoms 24 hours later despite wearing a mask. Health officials fear he may have passed the virus to many others. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said the case could be the start of a mass outbreak. 'This realises our worst fears,' he told Sydney radio 2GB. 'Now we could slip back into a second wave like other countries have.' Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said it was unlikely the man contracted the virus at the protest because it was too soon for him to start showing symptoms...

Rally Has A Political Undertone, Say MURIC, Akintola

The Executive Secretary of the Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN), Prof Muslih Yahya and Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Prof Is-haq Lakin Akintola have berated the organisers of the Christians rally, saying it has political undertone. Prof Yahya warned the leadership of Christians in the country to stop acting as opposition to the Federal government. “They are politicising the insecurity issue on one part and also diving the nation along religious line. This is unhealthy for our nation. That rally is more political than religious. Christian leaders behave more like opposition than religious people. President Trump ridiculed the physical appearance of a man in the crowd of his Keep America Great rally, on Thursday night, telling the guy and everyone watching that he had a “serious weight problem” and should get some exercise. Donald Trump’s typically "off-the-rails" speech was interrupted by demonstrators, and an apparent Trump supporter got up and grabbed a banner from their hands. Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa Escapes Bomb Attack, VP Injured

Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa has survived an apparent bomb attack at a rally in the city of Bulawayo. He was in Bulawayo, an opposition stronghold, to campaign for his Zanu-PF party ahead of nationwide elections taking place on 30 July. Mnangagwa said an object "exploded a few inches away from me - but it is not my time". Video footage from White City Stadium shows an explosion happening close to Mnangagwa as he was leaving the stage having addressed supporters. While the president was unhurt, state TV reports that Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has suffered a leg injury. Mnangagwa condemned the violence as senseless and pleaded for unity. The president came to power last November, ousting his former mentor Robert Mugabe.

At least one person was killed on Saturday and 35 injured as protests turned violent in Charlottesville, Virginia, as white supremacists clashed with counter-demonstrators and a car ploughed into a crowd of anti-racist and anti-fascist demonstrators. A 32-year-old female was among those killed in the car ramming, said Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas, and injuries ranged from life-threatening to minor. She was later named on social media as Heather Heyer and a fund raising page for her family has raised nearly $20,000, at the time of publication. Unite The Right: White Supremacists Rally In Virginia

Hundreds of far-right activists have gathered in the US city of Charlottesville, Virginia, to rally against plans to remove a Confederate statue, prompting the city to declare a "local emergency" amid clashes. Announced on Saturday morning, the declaration of a local emergency has enabled local authorities to obtain additional resources and render the rally an "unlawful public assembly". Writing on Twitter, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe also announced a state of emergency to "aid response to violence at the alt-right rally in Charlottesville". Organised by Jason Kessler, a former journalist and member of the Proud Boys, an ultra-nationalist group, Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally was slated to be one of the largest white supremacist events in recent US history. It is the ...

Osun West By-Election: Mammoth Crowd As Aregbesola Leads APC In Mega-Rally

Ejigbo, the ancient Osun State city, stood still on Monday afternoon as Governor Rauf Aregbesola led the campaign train of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the July 8 senatorial by-election, Senator Mudashir Husain, in a mega-rally. Governor Aregbesola, before a mammoth crowd, said the ruling party withdrew the Senate ticket from Husain in 2015 to rescue late Senator Isiaka Adeleke from political humiliation. Aregbesola, in honour of the memory of the late Senator Adeleke, asked the mammoth crowd to observe a one minute of silence, after which he prayed for the repose of the soul of the politician. He said the decision to take away the party’s ticket from Husain was deliberately made and unanimously agreed upon by the leadership of the party to restore ‎Adeleke’s...

Kane Saves England Draw After Scotland Rally With Late Free Kicks

Harry Kane scored a stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a 2-2 draw for England against Scotland in a wild finish to a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on Saturday. After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had opened the scoring for England in the 70th minute, Scotland’s Leigh Griffiths netted two excellent free kicks in the final three minutes to turn the game on its head, only for Kane to pop up late on to salvage a point for the visitors. Substitute Oxlade-Chamberlain cut inside from the right before bursting into the box and firing past Gordon for the breakthrough. But Scotland went looking for an equaliser, and Griffiths curled a strike inches wide before eventually finding the back of the net with his fine 87th-minute free kick to the left of a diving Joe Hart. And three minutes lat...
