Buhari Prevented Nigeria From Becoming Failed State – Lai Mohammed

In an apparent response to criticism by a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s information minister, Lai Mohammed, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts prevented Nigeria from becoming a failed state. PREMIUM TIMES reported Mr Obasanjo’s Friday statement that Nigeria was “fast drifting to a failed and badly divided state.The presidency in a separate statement Sunday replied Mr Obasanjo, describing him as Nigeria’s ‘Divider-In-Chief’. Anxiety as Adamawa Emirate title holder dies of suspected COVID-19

A title holder in the Adamawa emirate has died of suspected COVID-19, causing anxiety within the palace in Yola and the rest of Adamawa State. DAILY POST gathered Saturday morning that Ma’aji Adamawa, Rufai Ahmad Duwa, died on Friday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, after battling symptoms believed to be those of COVID-19, and was buried Friday evening in Yola town, Yola South LGA. Three Coronavirus patients have been discharged in Ondo state after recovering from the disease. About 23 shops and goods believed to worth millions of Naira were destroyed in a fire incident yesterday March 17 at Owode market in Offa, Kwara State. 21 Years old UNN Undergraduate Attempted Suicide after Parents Scolded him

21 year old undergraduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNN, Obasi Augustine Chukwuemeka, was prevented from committing suicide at his home on Number 4 Alaba street Ejigbo busstop in Lagos state on January 7th. According to a statement from Bala Elkana, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, an officer of Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps, alerted men of the Ejigbo  Police Station that Chuckuemeka tied a rope in a loop around the ceiling fan in his home in preparation for committing suicide because he was scolded by his parents. A swift response by operatives from Ejigbo Police Station prevented him from killing himself. He was rescued and taken to the hospital for medical examination.

Anambra State house of assembly makes genotype test compulsory before marriage to reduce the number of sickle cell patients

In a bid to reduce the number of sickle cell patients in the state, the Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill that makes genotype test compulsory before marriage.   The bill, which was sponsored by Charles Ezeani, member representing Anaocha II constituency and 15 others, was passed on Tuesday. The new law also seeks to reduce abuse, stigmatisation and exploitation victims of sickle cell anaemia go through in the state.   The new law states that parents and guardians should not give out their children in marriage until a genotype test is carried out. According to the law, no religious body or marriage registry “shall perform solemnisation of Holy Matrimony”, without presentation of a sickle cell disease prevention certificate from the intending couple. ...
