FG Has Given Up On Fight Against Corruption – Soyinka

According to Professor Wole Soyinka, the Federal Government has given up on the battle against corruption. The Nobel Laureate said this on Wednesday on AIT’s Kakaaki, adding that the system has been so corrupted that cases are stretched out into silence by all kinds of technicalities. He said: “There are so many people who should be in prison if this government had not run out of steam, and so the system is being manipulated. “There are cases where the prosecution had reached the level where evidence had been given on governors who had been stealing and depositing in bits and pieces so as not to flout a certain regulation. “I mean cases have been taken to that level and suddenly, silence. “The EFCC, which I backed solidly ever since the days of (Nuhu) Ribadu, in all ki...

Buhari’s Service Chiefs: Nwodo Disappointed Over Exclusion Of Igbo

The newly-appointed Coordinator of the Southern and Middle Belt Forum, SMBF, and immediate past President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has expressed shock and disappointment at President Muhammadu Buhari’s exclusion of Igbo in the appointment of the new Service Chiefs. Nwodo insinuated that Buhari’s action was an obvious expression of disdain for the Igbo people and a statement that suggests that no Igbo is fit to head any Nigerian security agency. President Buhari had, Tuesday, sacked Service Chiefs and immediately replaced them with new ones, which did not include any Igbo man or woman. The appointed new Service Chiefs include Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral AZ Gambo, Chief of Nava...

During the television programme, Adesina said: “The fact that they (the service chiefs) had to leave today does not mean that they have failed. “The president in the statement we issued also commended the outgoing service chiefs for their contributions in engendering a safer country. “That shows that by and large, he was satisfied with their performances and he just fe...

Aso Rock Cabal Asks Buhari To Place Tinubu On Security Watch List Before 2023

Members of the Aso Rock cabal have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to place Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on watch list. The cabals comprising some members of the President’s extended family and friends are the powers behind the throne. This group, led by Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, is said to have the ear of the President, influence policies and determine those who get major appointments. They accused Tinubu of sabotaging the war against insecurity in the country and instigating Nigerians, especially those from his South-West region, against the Buhari-led government. The group urged the President to order security agencies to investigate the recent activities of the APC stalwart. “They accused him (Tinubu) of instigatin...

He challenged the new appointees to see their appointments as an opportunity to re-engineer the nation's security architecture which has suffered tremendous setback in the last five years. "What the country needs now is competence and professionalism that will reduce insecurity to the barest minimum, " he stated. Pendulum: Who Shall Tell The President Nigeria Is Dying? – Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, please, take note of the title of my column this week. I did not say Nigerians are dying. That is stale news, as well as an understatement. My focus is that the country called Nigeria is dying. I do not know what sort of security briefing President Muhammadu Buhari, regularly or periodically, receives from his obviously reticent and incompetent security team. I doubt it includes the fact that Nigeria is speeding towards a monumental collapse, unless a miracle, or something drastic is done to stop this supersonic drift towards perdition. It might even be that the President does not receive any or proper security details, either because he does not want to hear or worse still, he assumes all is well. Which- ever way one contemplates these last two scenarios, it is...

Despite Importation Ban, Foreign Rice Floods Nigerian Markets

Imported rice has flooded Nigerian markets despite the ban imposed on the product by the federal government to encourage local production and self-sufficiency, Daily Trust reports. Findings have revealed that the recent reopening of some land borders has aggravated the illegal importation of the commodity. Stakeholders in the value chain, including local processors and growers, have expressed dismay over the development, saying it would reverse the gains recorded in the last few years. However, some observers have blamed millers for mopping up paddy rice and processing it in piecemeal, to attract more profit, thereby sabotaging the effort of the federal government in making rice affordable to Nigerians. President Muhammadu Buhari had in December, 2020, directed that the four b...
