Phillip Cocu's time in charge of Derby County has come to an end, with Wayne Rooney being part of the coaching team that will take charge at Pride Park on an interim basis. The former England international has been working as a player-coach but could see his responsibilities increase somewhat following this news. All we know for certain at the moment is that Cocu has been shown the door after an abysmal start to the season in the Championship. Rooney To Join Derby As Player-Coach From January 2020

Derby County have announced that England’s record goal-scorer Wayne Rooney will join the club from January 2020. The 33-year-old will arrive from Major League Soccer outfit DC United on an initial 18-month contract until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further year. As well as penning a playing contract with Derby, Rooney will join the club as a coach and continue to develop his coaching credentials in preparation for a potential managerial career.
