UK Parliament To Debate #EndSARS Petition

United Kingdom Parliament has responded to an online petition signed by about 219,743 people asking for sanctions to be imposed against the government of Nigeria and police officials involved in abuses and violation of human rights. In its response to the petition titled: “Implement sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials,” the UK Parliament said it will consider the petition for a debate, as it considers “all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate.” The Parliament said it was waiting for 22 days for a debate date on the petition, stating that there have been reports of a Nigerian police force unit (SARS) engaging in illegal activities and human rights abuses, and there have also been reports of police firing at protestors calling for SARS to...

Jegede Files Petition Against Akeredolu’s Victory At Election Tribunal

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, has filed petition at the tribunal challenging the victory of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Governor Akeredolu won in 15 out of the 18 local government areas to lead Jegede with a wide margin at the polls. Other defendants in the petition are; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the All Progressives Congress and the Deputy Govenor- elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Among the grounds on which the election is being challenged include; that it was marred by irregularities and pockets of violence and intimidation.

Tunde Braimoh, a member of the Lagos state House of Assembly has died. The late Braimoh who represented Kosofe Constituency II in the state House of Assembly, died at about 4am on Friday, July 10. Until his death, he was the chairman house committee on information, security, and strategy in the Lagos state house of Assembly. The Late Tunde Braimoh had also served in the Parliament as the chairman house committee on Judiciary, petitions, and LASIEC. He was also a one time chairman of Kosofe local government area, now Ikosi Isheri local council. He is survived by his wife and children. The cause of his death is yet unknown.
