Court grants Sowore N20m bail

A magistrate court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now Movement, in the sum of N20 million. Sowore, Peter Williams, Sanyaolu Juwon, Emmanuel Bulus and Damilare Adenola were arrested on New Year’s eve during a procession organised and led by Sowore. The police had arraigned the five persons last Monday on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and incitement. Mabel Segun-Bello, the magistrate, had ordered that they be remanded at the Kuje correctional centre. Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said Sowore was detained and later released on bail today by the Department of State Service (DSS) not due to his work as a journalist but because he called for a revolution to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nigeria. Nigerian Senate Invites Sowore’s Lawyer Over Invasion Of Court By DSS

According to SaharaReporters, the Nigerian Senate has invited lead counsel to Omoyele Sowore, Femi Falana (SAN), to appear before it over the invasion of the Federal High Court by operatives of the Department of State Services. Falana was asked to appear before the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters on Thursday by 10:00am.
