Meet Stephanie Frappart, The First Woman To Officiate Men’s Champions League Match

French referee Stephanie Frappart will become the first woman to take charge of a men's Champions League game when Juventus host Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday. Frappart became the first woman to take charge of a major men's Uefa competition match when Liverpool and Chelsea met in the 2019 Super Cup. The 36-year-old also refereed the 2019 Women's World Cup final between the USA and the Netherlands. She has refereed French Ligue 1 games since 2019. Frappart oversaw her first Europa League game in October when Leicester City hosted Zorya Luhansk. Switzerland's Nicole Petignat was the first woman to referee Uefa men's matches, when she took charge of Uefa Cup qualifying round games between 2004 and 2009.

Iron-lady, Yoshimi Yamashita To Officiate Germany Vs Nigeria Match

Japanese Referee Yoshimi Yamashita has been appointed to officiate Nigeria’s round of 16 FIFA Women’s World Cup match against two-time champions Germany. Yamashita had only previously served in that capacity once at this competition and will do so for the second time only since 2016 when she arrived on the scene. The 33 year-old experienced Japanese match official is keen on brandishing her cards at will and has issued 11 cautions in 10 international matches when she officiated. A Nigerian female referee identified as Basheer Salisu, will be officiating the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) in Tanzania alongside three other female referees. This is said to be the first time female referees will be officiating at a men’s football competition in Africa, and other female referees listed among the 29-match officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the 2019 U-17 AFCON, include; Jonesia Rukyaa Kabakana from Tanzania, Kenya’s Mary Wanjiru Njoroge and Lidwine Rakotozafinoro from Madagascar.
