Cryptocurrency Ban: Every Medium Of Exchange Is Subject To Fraud & Criminality — Moghalu Counters CBN

Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu has criticized the apex bank’s reason for stopping cryptocurrency transactions in the country. CBN had in a statement released on Sunday February 7, said it banned cryptocurrency transactions because they are largely speculative, anonymous, untraceable and are increasingly being used for money laundering, terrorism financing and other criminal activities. Reacting to this while appearing on an Arise TV program on Monday February 8, Moghalu stated that the excuse of "cryptocurrencies being used to perpetrate fraud" is not a serious argument. The former presidential candidate in the interview averred that every medium of exchange is subject to fraud and criminality. Moghalu said all the apex bank neede...

Why Is Military In Orlu And Not Police? – Kingsley Moghalu

A former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu has questioned the operation of the military in Orlu, Imo State. Soldiers invaded Orlu on Monday and engaged a group believed to be members of the Eastern Security Network of the Indigenous People of Biafra in a duel, sending residents scampering for safety. The incident forced Governor Hope Uzodimma to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in 12 local government areas of Imo West Senatorial District. Tweeting on Wednesday, Moghalu said the presence of the military in a police matter should be questioned. He said: “I regret the deaths of Nigerians in Orlu reportedly resulting initially from clashes between Nigerian soldiers and civilians. @Govhopeuzodinma has imposed a curfew to restore order, but the situation raises important questio...

In tweets he shared, the economist expressed fear of Nigeria becoming a failed state. He also said that ''a government which can’t protect the lives of its citizens, spends all its energy attempting to suppress #EndSARS peaceful protesters.'' Moghalu wrote; “The barbaric beheading of 43 Nigerians in Zabarmari village in Borno State by Boko Haram is a national outrage and tragedy. Moghalu Backs FG, NERC On Service Based Electricity Tariff Review

The Presidential candidate of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) in the 2019 general elections, Kingsley Moghalu, has thrown his weight behind the review of the electricity tariffs in the country. The Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria since Tuesday have been informing their customers about an upward review of electricity tariff, but President Muhammadu Buhari has insisted that any review must be based on improved service while poor and vulnerable Nigerians should not pay more in all cases. The President has also ordered mass metering in the country and directed an end of estimated billing. COVID-19: Kingsley Moghalu’s Statement On The Crisis

The Coronavirus Disease-2019 (Covid-19) epidemic presents a difficult and challenging time for the world and our country Nigeria. This crisis has security, social and economic dimensions, and we must now and in its aftermath fundamentally re-examine our patterns of thinking, acting, citizenship and leadership, and how this all translates into governance. I commend the Federal Government of Nigeria and State Governments, as well as the Nigerian private sector, for their progressively gallant efforts to protect our citizens from the ravages of Covid-19. Much more, however, remains to be done, and we must recognize the underlying prior failures of leadership, governance and citizenship that have left us uniquely vulnerable. Apart from the absence of healthcare infrastructure to handle...

Presidency Replies Moghalu On Buhari Not Invited To G-7 Summit

Kingsley Moghalu is either ignorant or playing petty politics. The non-invitation of President Buhari to witness the G7 meeting this year is not a snub. Neither does it diminish the status of Nigeria as the biggest economy on the continent. It seems no one clarified to the one-time Presidential Candidate how the G7 secretariat works. If they invite a country with an economy the size of Niger State, not Kano’s, not even Lagos’s does it call for Dr. Moghalu’s lamentation? Today, as we see it, they call this country, tomorrow they decide to have another. It’s entirely up to them. Buhari didn’t go to Europe. Europe came to him in Japan, where the EU had him sign an MOU for 50 Million Euro in support to the country’s devastated North East. The joke is not on President Buhari. The joke ...

Recall that the Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed had accused his predecessor, Mohammed Abubakar of spending a whopping sum of N2.3 billion to buy shroud (likkafani) and decking wood used in grave (iccen kabari) for Muslim burials in the state. We know why; it is to quash an independent voice, so this raises the question of the roles of traditional rulers,” Moghalu said. The government should no longer appoint traditional rulers. Exactly 20 years ago, Nigeria had an opportunity. The end of military rule was in sight with the death of Sani Abacha, and the time was ripe to fundamentally remake the character of the Nigerian state. Some of those who had fought military rule positioned themselves to take advantage of that opportunity by getting involved in party politics at all levels. But many were ill-equipped to manage Nigeria and her vast resources. Many others, some of whom were this country’s best and brightest, also stayed away, for a variety of reasons including fear for personal and family safety. Others preferred to watch from afar. The Nigeria we have today is a direct descendant of that chaotic period in our history. Kingsley Moghalu Back then, I was in my early thirties, making my way in the UN sy...
