Juventus coach Pirlo: Morata return was a priority

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo is delighted with the return of Alvaro Morata. Pirlo insists bringing Morata back from Atletico Madrid was always a priority. He said, “We were waiting for a striker to come in and he's here now. I know Morata well, I was lucky enough to play with him: he was one of our priorities. “On a technical and tactical level, he's the player we were looking for. Pellegrini went to Genoa to get more game time, also in light of next year's European Championship. “De Sciglio's available like he was last week."

Italian woman, 102, survives coronavirus infection

A 102-year-old Italian woman is the second centenarian this week to survive a battle with the coronavirus. Italica Grondona spent more than 20 days recovering from COVID-19 in a hospital located in the northern Italian city of Genoa, according to CNN. Dr. Vera Sicbaldi said the elderly patient’s story could provide hope to others in pandemic-ravaged Italy and said Grondona had been given a nickname. “We nicknamed her ‘Highlander’ — the immortal,” Sicbaldi said. “Italica represents hope for all the elderly facing this pandemic.” The doctor said she was first hospitalized for “mild heart failure” and began to show some symptoms of COVID-19. “She only had some mild coronavirus symptoms, so we tested her, and she was positive, but we did very little, she recovered on her own,” Sicb...

AC Milan Sack Marco Giampaolo After Only 9 Points In 7 Serie A Matches

Milan have officially sacked Marco Giampaolo and are expected to replace him with former Fiorentina and Inter boss Stefano Pioli. Four defeats in the opening seven rounds, and deeply unconvincing wins over Brescia, Hellas Verona and Genoa, were not enough to keep Giampaolo in the role. “AC Milan announce that Marco Giampaolo has been removed from the post of first team Coach. The club wishes to thank Marco for the work done and wish him all the best in his professional career.” Giampaolo only replaced Gennaro Gattuso in the Rossoneri’s hotseat over the summer, having spent the past three seasons establishing Sampdoria as a Serie A team. However, four defeats in his first seven League games was exacerbated by poor performances and a lack of supporter confidence. The ex-Sa...

Piatek dreams of playing alongside Ronaldo but is determined to fill Milan’s No. 9 shirt

The Polish frontman has been a revelation in Serie A and is eager to prove that he can match the efforts of the very best forwards in the business AC Milan forward Krzysztof Piatek says Cristiano Ronaldo would be a dream strike partner, but he is determined to prove himself deserving of the No. 9 shirt at San Siro. The prolific Poland international has been a revelation since arriving in Serie A as a stunning impact in 2018-19 saw him score 19 goals in 21 appearances for Genoa, before then recording 11 in as many appearances after securing a big-money move to Milan. His 30-goal haul is two more than five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo managed in his debut campaign at Juventus.

Juventus Captain Chiellini: We Should’ve Beaten Man Utd By More!

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini admits there was disappointment after victory at Champions League opponents Manchester United. Chiellini says they felt 1-0 should've been much more in the end. "We had a great first half, moving around, keeping possession constantly and frankly we had regrets that it was only 1-0," the captain told Sky Sport Italia. “We were a little tired and far too static in the second half, especially as Manchester United are a very physical side and strong on the counter. “I'm sure we will learn and improve from here, as it's still early in the season. Our draw with Genoa came after the break for international duty, while in that game we were a little too superficial and complacent. That complacency wasn't a risk in Manchester against a side like Uni...

Football: Italy v Ukraine international friendly

The Italians who had only manage one win in their last nine matches started on the right path, enjoying plenty of the ball possessions with the attacking trident of Federico Bernardeschi, Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Insigne causing the Ukrainian defence  problems. It was the latter who came closest with a curling shot which demanded slightly more bend to beat the goalkeeper. Ukraine had goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov largely to thank for the clean-sheet at the half-time break but the Shakhtar Donetsk shot-stopper went from hero to zero after the restart when he allowed Bernardeschi’s weak effort to beat him. Italy’s midfielder Marco Verratti leaves the pitch to be substituted during the friendly football match Italy vs Ukraine on October 10, 2018 at the Luigi-Ferraris stadium in Genoa. ...

Napoli Want Vrsaljko As Ghoulam Replacement

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are “ready to launch an assault” on Vrsaljko for January, with Ghoulam likely to miss the rest of the season due to damaged knee ligaments. Atleti paid Sassuolo €16m to sign the Croat last year, and he displaced Juanfran Torres at right-back midway through the 2016-17 campaign. However, a knee problem ended his season prematurely and he has struggled to regain his place in the team. Vrsaljko also spent a season at Genoa before his stint with Sassuolo, while his versatility allows him to play on the left-hand side. Corriere adds the Partenopei are also considering Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo, a graduate of Barcelona’s youth academy.

Allegri Admits He Is ‘Sorry ’ That Bonucci Cannot Face His Former Side

Bonucci’s red card against Genoa last weekend sees him miss the clash with Juve, three months on from his shock €40m transfer to Milan. “We’re feeling good, and we’re going to Milan to play a game of great charm, facing a team that had a great game against Chievo on Wednesday,” the Coach said at a Press conference. “They’re lagging a bit behind in the table, but they’ll end up in the top four positions. “SPAL? I was angry because we missed a lot of chances and weren’t very careful, not just in defence “We didn’t find the right pass on several occasions and that’s something which can’t happen at a team like Juventus. “Alex Sandro? We’ll have to decide between him and Asamoah. His call-up to the Brazil team gave him a great impetus. “We have to come away with three points. It won’t be ...

Milan Are Interested In Chelsea’s Conte For Next Season

The Rossoneri have lost their past two Serie A games, and face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina after the international break. While it’s not a case of win or bust for Montella, SportMediaset reports that the Coach would be in serious danger of being sacked if his side were to lose. A draw would likely be enough to extend his reign, with games against AEK Athens, Genoa and Chievo to follow before Juventus come calling on October 28. Nonetheless, it’s thought CEO Marco Fassone and sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli are drawing up plans in case they deem a change necessary. Rino Gattuso would be a possible replacement as caretaker until the end of the season, though it must be said his coaching career has been patchy so far. The idea though would be to get through this season wi...

Banti Has Been Appointed As The Referee For This Week’s Milan-Roma Game

The Tuscan official has presided over 195 Serie A matches, but this is the first time he’s been given this fixture. The Rossoneri, meanwhile, have a record of seven wins, seven draws and seven defeats in matches officiated by Banti. Elsewhere Antonio Damato will run the rule over Juventus’ trip to Atalanta, with Daniele Doveri taking charge of Benevento-Inter. Bayern Munich And Manchester United Sent Scouts To Watch Milinkovic-Savic

The Biancocelesti took a hard-fought win over Genoa at Marassi, with the Serbian playing 90 minutes in the 3-2 victory. According to Tuttomercatoweb, both Bayern and Man United sent emissaries to the stadium to assess the 22-year-old, who scored four Serie A goals last season, as well as providing seven assists. Clearly these are very early stages in any potential deal, and the Aquile won’t sell the youngster on the cheap.

Mauro Icardi: We Could Have Done More Tonight But Must Focus On Genoa

“We are not happy because we wanted to win, we could have played better, but as things turned out we’ll take the draw. We return home a little bit disappointed. We needed to take advantage of the last 15 minutes of the match. They ran a lot but in the end they pulled back because they grew tired. We should have taken advantage of that towards the end, we could have done something more, but we were unable to. The penalty? They studied me, and how I take them so I decided to shoot it like this. I do not like shooting penalties down the middle but it went in.” What did you and Palacio talk about? “He is my friend, I talk to him a lot even in Milano. We did not say anything special to each other.” Now it is on to Genoa? “We have to get back to winning at home. In front of our own crowd it ...

Seedorf: Italian Football’s Very Lucky To Find A Talent Like Pietro Pellegri

Pellegri scored twice in Genoa’s 3-2 defeat to Lazio on Sunday, despite being just 16 years of age, but Seedorf demanded caution over the attacker’s development, even if Italian football was “very lucky” to have him. “I think Italian football’s very lucky to have found a talent like him, but for his sake, I ask people not compare him with this or that player. You must let him grow in peace,” he told Calciomercato.com. “I saw a good Lazio and Genoa a bit too deep, looking to counterattack, in the first half. “In the second half, Genoa became more proactive going forward and were able to press more than Lazio. “The draw would’ve been great for Genoa’s morale, but unfortunately an individual mistake cost them the game. “However, I saw a team that had spirit and willingness. They only nee...

The patron flew in with a private jet to attend last night’s Andrea Bocelli concert in the Italian Capital. He won’t be able to watch Roma’s game against Sampdoria, as it was cancelled due to a weather warning in Genoa. Pallotta did speak briefly to reporters outside the concert, who asked if Totti had a future as a Coach at Roma. “For now he is doing a great job as a manager along with Monchi.” This week Totti signed up to begin a coaching course at Coverciano.

Armando Izzo’s Suspension Has Been Cancelled, So He Can Return For Genoa

The centre-back was given an 18-month ban in April for failing to report two fixes while at Avellino, for games against Modena and Reggina in 2013-14. In May that was reduced to six months, and with time served taken into account he was eligible for an October return. However, the appeals court has now overturned the ban and the prosecutor opted not to move for any appeal. As a result the FIGC has annulled Izzo’s suspension, and he’s immediately eligible to play once again. In practice, however, it’s unlikely he’ll return at the weekend given he hasn’t played for five months.

Genoa Scout: Niang Can Be Worth €100m, Ansaldi Like Zanetti

Torino signed Niang, Ansaldi and Burdisso over the summer, and Omar Milanetto – who knows the trio well from their spells at Genoa – believes the Granata have pulled off masterstrokes in landing the trio.“Burdisso? Although he’s 36 and, on paper, not a starter, I know him very well and he increased his loads every day in the two months that he was released,” the former Rossoblu midfielder told Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.“Nico isn’t a normal player: he’s an animal in the best sense of the word. As a player, he’s very strong, with a crazy amount of experience.“His 15 career triumphs, including three Intercontinental Cups, [Copa] Libertadores, titles and other Cups, speak for themselves.“He’s an exceptional professional and he plays younger than what his identity card says. Icardi Brace Sees Inter Stun Wasteful Roma

Mauro Icardi scored a second-half brace as Inter Milan rocked Roma 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday to send out an early-season statement of intent to their Serie A title rivals. An early opener from Edin Dzeko, Serie A’s top scorer last season with 29 goals, had a packed Olimpico jumping in anticipation of Roma starting their home campaign with a win. But the hosts, playing under the watchful eye of new club director Francesco Totti, were stunned into silence in a thrilling second half. Inter followed Juventus — 4-2 comeback winners at Genoa thanks to a Paulo Dybala hat-trick — in making it back-to-back victories to start the season and also vindicated their new coach Luciano Spalletti. Spalletti brought his second spell in charge of Roma to an end last season, when the ...

Roma Legend Totti’s Final Shirt Launched Into Space

Roma legend Francesco Totti’s iconic number 10 shirt, which he wore for the final time on May 28, has been launched into space, the Serie A club said Wednesday. The 40-year-old played his final game after 24 years with the capital-city side in a 3-2 win against Genoa. And as a tribute to ‘immortalise’ the forward a rocket carrying the number 10 shirt, from his final game, was successfully launched from French Guyana. “Mission complete: on Tuesday night history was made as Francesco Totti’s final shirt as a Roma player was successfully launched into space,” the club said. The rocket was sent up by Avio “a worldwide leader in the field of space travel” with those who helped the launch pictured wearing purple-red Totti shirts. Totti played 786 matches for Roma in total after jo...

I Rejected Offers From Three Clubs In Champions League – Suso

AC Milan midfielder Suso says he has turned down the opportunity to join a club who can offer him Champions League football as he favours a longer stay at the Serie A club. Suso, who joined Milan in 2015 but spent the first six months of 2016 on loan at Genoa, is hoping to sign a new contract with the San Siro club. The former Liverpool man says he has been left waiting since December to finalise a deal, but in the meantime he has received attractive offers to leave Milan. “First of all I would like to thank the fans for their many messages,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “I would like to let them know that we had an agreement in December and I have been waiting since. “I spoke with [Milan general manager Marco] Fassone back then and he told me that there was no problem.
