The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), over alleged extortion of motorists and gratification. In a 2-count charge brought before Honourable Justice H. Aprioku of the Rivers State High Court 11 sitting in Port Harcourt, ICPC told the court how the duo, John Asegu and Otom Asueni, forcefully collected various sums of money totaling N3,500 from motorists as a “fee“ to allow the motorists pass their checkpoint along Port Harcourt-Ahoada expressway, even without being charged for any traffic offence. A pedestrian was crushed to death after a truck carrying sacks of grain derailed off the Lagos-Ibadan road today Wednesday, February 3. The truck driver reportedly lost control of the wheel and derailed off the road. Sadly, the pedestrian who was walking by the road was hit and crushed to death. NIN to Become Compulsory for Vehicle Registration from Second Quarter of 2021- FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC says beginning from the second quarter of 2021, the National Identity Number NIN will become compulsory whenever anyone is applying for vehicle registration. FRSC Records 10,522 Crashes Nationwide In 2020

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says no fewer than 10, 522 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) were recorded nationwide in 2020 involving 17,614 vehicles. The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this in an interview with the Newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. Kazeem said 4, 794 persons were recorded dead and 28,449 persons got various degrees of injury within the period under review, while 29,808 had minor injuries and survived. He said there was a decrease in the total number of people killed by road traffic crashes in 2020 when compared to 2019. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, yesterday, vowed to commence arrests and prosecution of motorists, who make phone calls while driving. 5 dead, 2 Injured in Enugu Road Accident – FRSC

At least 5 people lost their lives and 2 were seriously injured in a fatal accident on the Nsukka-Obollo road in Enugu State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in the state, Mr Ogbonnaya Kalu said the accident occurred on Friday, July 10, at Kpokpo junction, by Micho Link Filling Station. He said there were two injured people at the scene and FRSC officials took them to the hospital. He added that the accident was caused by wrong overtaking by a green Toyota Sienna. A mob of residents in the Ota on Saturday set a truck ablaze at the Old Toll Gate axis of the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway in the state. This followed an accident involving the truck and two other vehicles, which affected 17 people. Officials of the Ogun State Fire Service later arrived at the scene to put out the fire. 3 dead as bus plunges into Ogun river

Three persons have been confirmed dead after a 14-seater commercial bus plunged into the Ososa river in Ogun state.   A statement released by the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC Ogun state command, says the accident happened around 10am at the Ijebu Ode - Sagamu Expressway. A total of 14 people comprising (5male adult and 9Female adult ) were involved in the fatal crash. One male and two females died instantly.   FRSC attributes the cause of the crash to mechanical deficiency. The injured victims were rescued to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode, and the corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the same Ijebu Ode General Hospital Mortuary. Efforts are currently on going to remove the Mazda bus from the river.
