FCMB Names Yemisi Edun As Acting MD

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has appointed an acting Managing Director and she is Mrs Yemisi Edun, an executive director on the board of the bank. She is taking over from the Mr Adam Nuhu, who stepped aside from the exalted position to allow for an investigation into the allegation of unethical behaviour by him. He was accused of having a romantic affair with a former employee of the financial institution, Mrs Moyo Thomas. The alleged romance produced two children, according to reports. CBN Fine 12 Banks N499b For Not Giving Out Loan To Customers

For breaching its guidelines on lending to the real sector of the economy, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has fined 12 major banks N499.1billion. According to an approved debit instruction, the affected banks and the amount they will pay are: Citibank (N100,743,055, 321); First Bank of Nigeria (N74,668,880,480); FBNQuest Merchant Bank (N2, 697,456,144); First City Monument Bank (FCMB), (N14, 371,064, 742) and Guaranty Trust Bank (N25, 147, 933, 628). Others are Jaiz Bank (N7, 525, 165,552); Keystone Bank (N4, 162, 938, 879); Rand Merchant Bank (N2, 823,177,399); Standard Chartered Bank (N30,027,137,984); SunTrust Bank (N1,703,205,427); United Bank for Africa (N99,676,181,916) and Zenith Bank (N135,629,337,625). Court Freezes Accounts Linked To Ex-governor, Ambode, Over N9.9bn Alleged Fraud

A Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on Tuesday ordered the freezing of three bank accounts allegedly linked to the Lagos State government and former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, over an alleged N9.9 billion fraud. Chuka Obiozor, the judge, ordered the temporary freezing of the accounts, domiciled in Zenith Bank, Access Bank, and First City Monument Bank, following an exparte application brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. According to the EFCC, N9.9 billion was paid from the state government’s accounts into the FCMB account opened on September 17, 2018, and operated by Adewale Adesanya, the permanent secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to Mr Ambode. Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos has admitted in evidence two documents tendered against a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Idris admitted the two documents, the first titled, “Financial Regulations of Abia State and another one containing details of salaries paid to Dr. Kalu while in office as Abia state governor. The EFCC had attempted to tender the documents on Monday but the move was opposed to by defence team led by Chief Awa Kalu (SAN). The lawyer argued that apart from not being certified, the documents were not front- loaded by the prosecution as mandated by Section 379 (1) (a) (5) of the Evidence Act. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says that the operating licence issued to Etisalat cannot be transferred without its approval. Etisalat, Nigeria’s fourth largest mobile network, had transferred control of the company to a consortium of banks after failed debt repayment talks. CBN Injects $388.66m Into Foreign Exchange Market As FCMB Increases Sales

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released an additional sum of $388.66million to ease pressure on the naira, stimulate business activities and make foreign exchange (Forex) accessible to local operators. Confirming the numbers, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department at the CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, disclosed that the sum of $87.885million was for spot sales, while $300.8 million was sold as forwards. Mr. Okorafor further explained that the forwards were sold into three tenors of 30, 45 and 60 days respectively. According to him, the Bank sold $100.95 as 30-day forwards; $110.48 million as 45-day forwards and $99.37 as 60-day forwards. FCMB Group Plc has again demonstrated its resilience by reporting a profit before tax (PBT) of N16.3 billion for the full-year ended December 31, 2016, an increase of 109% compared to the N7.8 billion for the same period in 2015.
