Fire Outbreak at Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters

There was a fire outbreak at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja today January 10. The Service disclosed this in a statement on its official Twitter handle this morning. According to the service, the fire affected some of the offices in the headquarters.   The tweet reads ''A fire incident occurred in our Service Headquarters this Morning. It affected some of our Offices. 2.The fire has been put out by our Federal Fire Station&support from other agencies around the Airport. 3.The cause of the fire is being investigated.We assure the public that the incident will not in any way affect the discharge of our services.''

Fire guts former Oyo First lady, Florence Ajimobi’s supermarket

Fire on Sunday, gutted a section of the supermarket belonging to the wife of late former governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi.   The supermarket known as Grandex Stores located at Bodija, Ibadan, was said to be on fire at about 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, as a result of an electrical surge from the back of the store which later got out of hands, turned into a wildfire and spread to the main building.   The Deputy Director, Oyo State Fire Service, Moshood Adewuyi, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said that the timely intervention of the state’s firefighters prevented the store from burning into ashes,   He disclosed that the fire destroyed some sections of the store and damaged a lot of goods stored inside.   Mrs. Florence Ajimo...

Tanker Explosion On Kara Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Road: LRU & Fire Service Were Attacked By Hoodlums While Responding To Fire

The agency responded to the incident at 0105hrs this morning according to the State emergency response plan. The joint team (agency + @LAG_FireService) was waylaid on arrival by a group of miscreants brandishing weapons and was forced to seek extra police cover from the Isheri Police Station. The operation commenced with the police protection until the group of assailants grew larger and caused significant damage to vehicles and threats to life of our personnel. The team was forced to suspend the Recovery operation for safety reasons. It is of note that this attack is part of a very worrisome trend of first responders being attacked in the course of their duties. Lagosians are urged to refrain from endangering the lives of emergency responders.

Over 50 Houses Destroyed in Lagos Explosion – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has revealed that over 50 houses were destroyed in the explosion that rocked Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos on Sunday. This was according to the acting coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye. Farinloye said that the cause of the explosion and casualty figure were currently unknown as at the time of filing this report, while rescue operations are still going on in the affected area. A Florida man identified as John King has been arrested for setting a hospital bed on fire while another patient was in the room, in an attempt to get a nurse’s attention. In a statement released by New Smyrna Beach Police Department, King was accused of setting a plastic bag on fire on Saturday because he felt the Advent Health New Smyrna Beach staff were ignoring his request to bring him his clothes. Fire Guts Apongbon Market in Lagos

The popular Apongbon market in Lagos Island was gutted by fire on Sunday morning. The Ebute Ero Underbridge section of the market went up in flames around 10:45pm. Shops and property were affected and efforts are on to stop the spread. The cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet. The Lagos State Fire Service, the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), among others are at the scene. The incident occurred a few weeks after the fire outbreak at the popular Balogun Market in Lagos. Mob Sets Truck Ablaze In Ogun

A mob of residents in the Ota on Saturday set a truck ablaze at the Old Toll Gate axis of the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway in the state. This followed an accident involving the truck and two other vehicles, which affected 17 people. Officials of the Ogun State Fire Service later arrived at the scene to put out the fire. The accident, which left seven people killed and 10 others injured, occurred in the morning as a result of speed and brake failure on the part of the truck. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the injured victims have been taken to the hospital while the bodies of the dead people have been removed to the morgue. Fires Razes a Section of Obasanjo’s House

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo's house in Ogun State was gutted by fire which started in the late hours of yesterday February 12. The fire which began around 9.30pm in a section of the house located at Ita-Eko area of the state, is believed to have been caused by a power surge. Items destroyed by the fire is still unclear but it was learnt that residents of the community helped the domestic workers to put out the fire. Ogun State Director of Fire Service, Fatai Adefala who confirmed the incident said only the store in the building was affected by the fire. He also disclosed that officials of the fire service succeeded in putting out the fire after responding to distress calls around 10:00pm.

16 Members of a Family allegedly Burnt to Death in Kaduna

Sixteen members of the same family were allegedly burnt to death by bandits who invaded Bakali village in Fatika District, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday February 11th. Eyewitnesses say the bandits stormed the community at about 4pm, setting everything in their sight including bags of grains, vehicles and motorcycles, on fire. A resident of the community said the bandits who were over 100 in number, locked up the 16 members of the same family in a room and set fire to the house. The state police command is yet to react to the incident.

Fire Razes Parts of Owerri Airport

A fire outbreak suspected to be as a result of bushfire, has been reported at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State. The cause of the fire is still unknown but the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, described it as a bush fire. Some residents of Oyo, Osun and Ogun states in the southwestern states are experiencing partial blackout as a multi-million giant transformer belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), at Ayede in Akinyemi area, Ring Road, Ibadan gutted fire on Wednesday morning.
