FCMB Appoints Acting Managing Director, Yemisi Edun

The First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has announced the appointment of Yemisi Edun as its acting managing director. Edun takes over the running of the bank from the Managing Director, Adam Nuru, who on Tuesday, January 5, proceeded on leave amid allegations of marital infidelity involving him and a former staff of the bank, Moyo Thomas. There are allegations that Moyo's estranged husband, Tunde Thomas, 45, died on December 16, 2020, from a heart attack after battling with depression upon discovering that the two children from their marriage were allegedly fathered by Mr Nuru. House of Representatives Pass Revised 2020 Budget of N10.8trn

The House of Representatives has passed the revised 2020 Federal budget of N10.8 trillion from the initial N10.5 trillion submitted by the president. The Executive had written to the lawmakers for a downward review of the budget from N10.6 trillion to N10.5 trillion based on the global economic realities as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. The lawmakers however increased the budget to N10.8 billion, higher than the initial approved budget. Based on the revised appropriation as passed by the house, statutory transfers also known as the first line charge (a category into which the National Assembly budget falls), was increased from N398 billion (398,505,979,362) to N422 billion (N422,775,979,362). EU Economics Chief Says 1.5 Trillion Euros In Aid Could Be Needed To Tackle Coronavirus

The European Union’s Economics Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni told German magazine Der Spiegel that aid worth around 1.5 trillion euros ($1.63 trillion) could be needed to tackle the coronavirus crisis. “The Eurogroup has now made proposals for aid worth more than 500 billion euros to finance healthcare and short-time work and to help small and medium-sized companies. Ministry Of Education Denies Plan To Hike Universities Tuition Fees To N350k

The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked claims on social media that the Federal Government had approved the hike in tuition fees of Nigerian universities to N350,000. The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, recently alleged that the Federal government was proposing a hike in tuition fees in Federal universities to the tune of N350k a session. Federal Government offers 2 savings bonds at 10.48%, 11.48%

The Federal Government on Monday offered for a subscription a two-year savings bond at 10.48 percent and a three-year savings bond at 11.48 percent, the Debt Management Office (DMO) has said. According to the offering circular on the DMO website, the two-year bond will be due in July 2020 while the three-year bond will be due in July 2021. It, however, did not state how much was offered for the bonds, but stated that the maximum subscription was N50 million at N1, 000 per unit, subject to minimum subscription of N5, 000 and in multiples of N1, 000. The DMO said the bonds were fully backed by the full faith and credit of the federal government, with quarterly coupon payments to bondholders.
