The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, has explained why Nigeria cannot produce COVID-19 vaccines or other vaccines. Mr Shuaib, while speaking at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing on Monday, said the process of producing a vaccine requires massive investment that has not been done for many decades. “There are questions around why Nigeria is not producing COVID-19 vaccines. WHO Donates 20 Million Doses Of Yellow Fever Vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) has promised to donate 20 million doses of vaccines annually towards eradicating yellow fever in the country. Briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, WHO Representative, Dr Fiona Braka said the organization was ready to assist the country in achieving total vaccination of the populace in line with the Elimination of Yellow Epidemics (EYE) by 2026. "The global community is committed to this course and has pledged 20 million doses annually to achieve the target despite the global vaccine shortfall," Braka said. Germany To Support Fight Against Polio In Nigeria

Germany and Nigeria signed a 29.9-million-euro agreement for the European country to support the program to eradicate poliomyelitis in the African nation, official sources reported. According to a communiqué from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), its public relations chief, Saadu Salahu, pointed out that the agreement is the ninth such a deal between the two countries to support the eradication of poliomyelitis in Nigeria. The pact was penned in Abuja by the joint chief of the German mission in Nigeria, Regine Hess, Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama and NPHCDA Executive Director Faisal Shuaib.
