Outdated NIMC Facilities Stalling NIN-SIM Linkage

With about 22 days to the February 9 deadline for the enrolment, verification and linking of the National Identification Numbers (NIN) to Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards, telecoms operators have raised the alarm over the challenge they have with the backend integration of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The Guardian gathered that one of the reasons many subscribers had not received any confirmation from their network operators, after submitting their NINs is because there has been no seamless confirmation from the backend of the NIMC. FG Orders Immediate Closure Of Enrolment Activities At NIMC Headquarters

The Federal Government has ordered immediate closure of enrolment activities at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Headquarters, Abuja and reactivation of 20 centers within the FCT to make the process of NIN enrolment much easier from Monday, January 18th 2021. A statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, NIMC Kayode Adegoke advised members of the public, residents and visitors to the FCT wishing to enrol for the National Identification Number (NIN) to use any of the following NIMC centers: State Office 2nd Floor, Block C, No 4 Maputo Street, Zone 3, Wuse, Abuja. COVID-19: NIN Registration May Be Suspended – Minister Of State For Health

Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, Minister of State for Health, Monday said that the ongoing registration and National Identification Number enrolment may be suspended due to the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country. As at yesterday, 100,087 cases have been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). 1358 are reported dead since Coronavirus stormed Nigeria on February, 2020. Also, about 80,030 persons have been treated and discharged. On Sunday 10, 2021, NCDC confirmed 1,544 new infections of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), on Thursday, warned members of its staff cashing in amid the ongoing NIN registration nationwide to desist as they risk seven years in jail when caught. The Honourable Minister, Dr. Isa Pantami has today directed the suspension of NIMC staff involved in extortion of applicants at its Bauchi and Kaduna State Offices. There are indications that some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities are enrolling for the Integrated Personnel Payroll Integrated System contrary to the directive of the union .
