Judge dismisses third degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin over George Floyd’s death

A judge has dismissed the third degree murder charge against white cop Derek Chauvin over the killing of black man George Floyd after he knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes. The former Minneapolis police officer, 44, still faces other charges including the more serious charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill announced the ruling Thursday morning. Cahill also denied motions to dismiss the charges of aiding and abetting against the three other fired officers charged in connection with Floyd’s death. Beijing Reports Dozens of new COVID-19 Cases Amid Fears of a Second Wave

Beijing has recorded 36 new locally-transmitted Coronavirus cases, amid fears of a second wave in the Chinese capital. Officials said on Monday June 15, that they traced the cases to a major wholesale food market after almost two infection-free months. Another 36 cases were also recorded on Saturday. The country's Vice Premier Sun Chunlan called on officials to take "decisive measures", warning that the risk of further spread remained high. The general manager of the market has been dismissed, along with other local officials. Tribunal Upholds Yahaya Bello’s Victory As Kogi Governor, Dismisses Natasha, SDP

The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday dismissed the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party and its candidate in the last governorship election in the state, Natasha Akpoti, challenging the victory of Governor Yahaya Bello at the last poll. In a ruling, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Kashim Kaigama, awarded the cost of N100,000 to be paid by each of the two petitioners to each of the three respondents – the Independent National Electoral Commission, the APC and Bello. The total costs to be paid by the petitioners amount to N600,000. The three-man panel has yet to fix a date for the judgment of the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Musa Wada.
