Wayne Rooney Given Interim Role At Derby After Cocu Dismissal

Phillip Cocu's time in charge of Derby County has come to an end, with Wayne Rooney being part of the coaching team that will take charge at Pride Park on an interim basis. The former England international has been working as a player-coach but could see his responsibilities increase somewhat following this news. All we know for certain at the moment is that Cocu has been shown the door after an abysmal start to the season in the Championship. The Rams currently sit rock bottom of the table, having picked up just six of a possible 33 points available. The former PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce coach, who took over at Derby from Frank Lampard after his departure for Chelsea, leaves the club with a record of 22 victories, 17 draws and 26 defeats in 65 games. The Police Service Commission has frowned on the refusal of some policemen to return to their duty posts following the killing of about 22 cops during the violence that broke out in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests across the country. The PSC said Public Service Rules, which also applies to members of the Nigeria Police Force, prescribes dismissal for any officer that deserted his job, while admonishing them to put the killing of their colleagues behind them. The PSC stressed that policemen did not deserve to be killed and should in fact be protected as fellow human beings, but it however noted that the attack on them by hoodlums should not be an excuse for them to stay away from work. PSC spokesperson, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said the attacks on the police were not good for t...

A rape lawsuit against Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been quietly dropped, the UK Mirror reports. A notice of voluntary dismissal was filed last month in Nevada State Court. It was reported in March that Juventus, the Italian league champions, wouldn’t participate in the International Champions Cup in the US this summer, to avoid the risk that Ronaldo would be detained by authorities as part of a rape investigation. Ronaldo publicly denied the allegations and never filed a response to the lawsuit.
