Gunmen Kidnap, Monday Izu, DELSU SSANU Chairman

THE spate of insecurity in the Delta State University, DELSU, community, Abraka Thursday further nosedived with the abduction of the chapter chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Mr. Monday Izu. Mr. Izu was reportedly abducted along the Eku-Abraka road in Erho axis while returning from Warri where he had go to for an official engagement. Sources said the hoodlums had laid ambush on a failed portion of the road waiting for commuters to abduct adding that the DELSU staff might have been a random target of the incident. Okowa Donates N6m To Family Of Slain DELSU Undergraduate

Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has donated N6 million to the parents of late Elozino Ogege, an undergraduate of Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) who was reportedly killed by ritualists. We had earlier report that Ms Ogege was until her death a 300 level student of Mass Communication at DELSU. She was allegedly murdered on November 15, 2018. Suspected ritualists beheaded a 12-year-old girl identified as Eguono in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday morning Nov 29th. The incident took place in a compound close to Okwemeva junction along the Scott Road area in Ogharefe, Oghara. The killing came one month after a 60-year old woman was butchered on October 30, in another part of Oghara. The killers of Elozino Joshualia Ogege, a 300 level student of Delta State University, have given a chilling account of how she was killed. Elozino, a First Class student, was murdered by a 4-man gang consisting of 2 Yahoo boys, a security guard at her school, and a native doctor, as she innocently sought accommodation. DELSU Final Year Student, Efemena TuTu Commits Suicide After Being Scolded By Dad

A final year pharmacy student of the Delta State University, Abraka,(DELSU) has reportedly committed suicide after being scolded over his poor academic performance by his father. It was reported that Orumah Efemena TuTu, took his own life by taking two bottles of an insecticide called Sniper. Insiders reveal that his dad had visited him in school to berate him for not progressing like his younger ones. The deceased was said to have been put on probation twice and had four carryovers. Kidnapped DELSU Lecturer Escapes

A lecturer from the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Dr Boniface Anyanwu, was, at about 2a.m on Saturday, kidnapped from his Obiaruku home, with the abductors demanding N20m in ransom. Anyanwu, who was later crammed in the booth of his Toyota Camry and driven away to an unknown destination, reportedly escaped from the kidnappers' den yesterday.

DELSU Final Year Student Dies After Severe Menstrual Pain And Bleeding

Isoken Kristal Bright, a final year student of Delta State University, DELSU, has died after an illness. Friends of the deceased said she was suffering severe menstrual cramps and excessive bleeding before her death but it is not confirmed if that's the cause of death. Isoken, 23, was the only daughter of her mother Mrs Osagbogbe, a top nurse at Sapele General Hospital, Delta state. She also has a brother who is now her mother's only child. Friends took to Facebook to mourn the "cheerful" young woman who always had a smile one her face.

NDDC Moves To Revoke Some Contracts

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is set to revoke many contracts for projects in different parts of the oil-rich region to enable it to focus on strategic ones that would open up the areas. The commissioner representing Delta State on the NDDC board, Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo, who disclosed this during the inspection of the Koko-Oghoye-Escravos-Epe (Lagos) road project and other projects in Isoko and Abraka, said the NDDC had been saddled with too many projects. According to him, the commission, at the last count, had about 9,000 projects in the nine states of the Niger Delta. The Delta State University (DELSU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared it won’t honour the nationwide strike ASUU called on Monday. Chairman of the DELSU chapter of ASUU, Prof. Abel Diakparomre, said in Asaba on phone that DELSU-ASUU was not part of the processes that culminated in the latest strike, insisting that academic staff of the university is not on strike. “DELSU is not on strike. ASUU is a democratic union, we were not part of the decisions at all. The referendum which the national leadership of ASUU claimed to have conducted across the chapters was not done here at DELSU. Suspected kidnappers have attacked, shot and seriously injured a lecturer with the Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Richard Okorodudu at Ughelli. He's pictured above with his wife, Chinonso Arubayi and son. Eric Arubayi had just celebrated his 3rd wedding anniversary last two months, Dec. 28th 2016. He was just in his mid-30s.
