Benue Imposes Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew On 2 LGAs Over Criminal Acts

The Benue State Security Council has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on two Local Governments of the state as part of measure to contain criminal activities in the areas. The affected LGAs include, Ukum and Katsina-Ala which reportedly became safe haven’s for banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery among other insecurity challenges. State Deputy Governor, Engr. Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola has extended the relaxation of curfew imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the State by another two weeks, effective from Friday, June 19. The Oyo state government has reviewed the curfew order issued to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the state. Governor Seyi Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa said the curfew would now run from 10pm to 4am. While churches and mosques were directed to operate at 25 per cent capacity; public gathering in the state are to have not more than 25 persons. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has disclosed that the state recorded 30 new positive cases of COVID-19 in one week. Nationwide Curfew Now 10pm To 4am – FG

The Federal Government says the timing for nationwide curfew is now 10pm to 4am. The National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, made this known on Monday. Aliyu, who spoke at the daily briefing of the task force in Abuja, said the new timing takes effect from tomorrow (Tuesday). He said, “Effective from tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, the easing of the lockdown will be characterised by the following: the nationwide curfew will remain in place but the timing of this will be reduced to 10pm to 4am. “And just to clarify, the purpose of the curfew is to limit social interactions and, therefore, reduce the risk of transmission of the virus.” MCI reports that the FG previously set the timing of the curfew from 8pm to 6pm.
