Court grants Sowore N20m bail

A magistrate court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now Movement, in the sum of N20 million. Sowore, Peter Williams, Sanyaolu Juwon, Emmanuel Bulus and Damilare Adenola were arrested on New Year’s eve during a procession organised and led by Sowore. The police had arraigned the five persons last Monday on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and incitement. Mabel Segun-Bello, the magistrate, had ordered that they be remanded at the Kuje correctional centre. Nigerians Reacts to Black Lives Matter Protest Holds in Victoria Island, Lagos, Under the Rain

Nigerians braved the rain to protest the murder of George Floyd and to call for an end to racial injustice. The protest was organised by the Black Lives Matter Movement in Nigeria (BLMMN). The convener, Josephine Okpara, stormed the streets of Victoria Island, Lagos, with other protesters.   They carried placards with words such as "Black Lives Matter" and "Justice For George Floyd" written on them as they condemned the killing of African Americans in the United States of America. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the re-arrest of the convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore and his co-defendant, Adebayo Bakare. Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), had invaded a courtroom at the Federal High Court, Abuja this morning to arrest the duo, a move Atiku calls a rape on the sanctity of the court. Court Gives DSS 24 Hours To Release Sowore Or Face Its Wrath

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow Protest, within 24 hours.   Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who gave the order, also awarded an N100, 000 fine against the DSS over its delay to serve the defence counsel with the additional proof of evidence in the ongoing trial of Sowore and Olawale Bakare.   The judge, who was visibly angry over the development which has caused the court to adjourned the trial at the instance of the DSS, said the fine must be paid to the defendants before the next adjourned date.   Ojukwu, therefore, adjourned until Dec. 6 for trial continuation.   Details later...

Professor Wole Soyinka has warned the Department of State Services, DSS, to stop the charade and display of ''crude and naked power'' by releasing the Convener, #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore still being kept in their custody despite meeting his stringent bail conditions. Free Sowore: We were given N1m not to protest —Adeyanju

Convener of a coalition of civil society groups under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju has claimed that the group was offered N1m by government sympathizers not to hold today’s sit out against the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore. He spoke at the ongoing protest metres away from the DSS Headquarters at Aso Drive. The Department of State Services has alleged in fresh papers filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja that the convener of #RevolutionNow protests, Omoyele Sowore, met with “foreign collaborators” in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries on how to topple the Muhammadu Buhari government”. Court grants DSS permission to detain Omoyele Sowore for 45 days

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the DSS permission to detain the convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days. Justice Taiwo Taiwo, ruling on an ex parte application by the State Security Service, whose operatives arrested Sowore last Saturday, held that the detention order would be renewable after the expiration of first 45 days on September 21. The SSS had on Tuesday applied for permission to keep Sowore for 90 days to investigate him over his call for revolution ahead of the RevolutionNow protests which held in some parts of the country on Monday July 5. Deji Adeyanju Detained for Murder 4 years After Acquittal

An activist and Convener, Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju detained for murder by the Police after 4 years of acquittal from said offence. The activist was reportedly acquitted by Justice Mohammed Haliru of the Kano High Court in 2014, Punch Metro reports.
