INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu Sued Over Asset Declaration

A federal high court in Abuja has been asked to compel the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to produce the asset declaration form belonging to Mahmood Yakubu, chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Emmanuel Agonsi, the plaintiff, wrote a letter to the CCB, seeking the INEC chairman’s asset declaration form as well as that of his unmarried adult children. In an ex parte motion with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/33/2021, the plaintiff through his counsel E. C. Muokwudo, prayed the court to direct the CCB to produce the certified true copies (CTC) of the asset declaration forms. The Ahmad Lawan-led Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nominations by President Muhammadu Buhari into the various vacant positions at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). Those confirmed as members are Barr. Benedict Umeano (Anambra — South East); Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma (Edo - South South); and CP. Olayinka Babatunde Balogun Rtd (Ogun – South West). The confirmation of the nominees followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions. The Code of Conduct Bureau has invited Ibrahim Magu for questioning over alleged corruption involving breach of code of conduct for public offers In a November 2, 2020, letter obtained by Peoples Gazette, Mr. Magu was asked to bring copies of all asset declarations since joining public service. Copies of appointment letter and and records of service from January to May 2020 were amongst the documents Mr. Magu was asked to bring, as well as all documents of landed properties both developed and undeveloped. The invitation came months after Mr. Magu was suspended from office as acting-chairman of the EFCC on allegations of corruption.
