Obasanjo Created Chaos In Nigeria, Buhari Working To Restore Order -Tony Momoh

Prince Tony Momoh, elder statesman and former Minister of Information in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI in Abuja, speaks on 60 years of Nigeria’s independence as a sovereign nation. Momoh, who is one of the of national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also speaks on restructuring, insecurity and other issues. Excerpts: Nigeria will be 60 years on October 1st, how far do you think we have come as a nation? We have made progress and retrogressed at the same time. This is because when you move from one point to the other, there are challenges on the way. The way you attend to the challenges is what you see as either progress or retrogression. Experiences that human beings encounter in their living are what make them grow. We have had lots of challenges. I...

Democrats nominate Biden for president, vowing he’ll end Trump ‘chaos’

Democrats formally nominated Joe Biden for president on Tuesday, with elder statesmen and rising stars promising he would repair a pandemic-devastated America and end the chaos of Republican President Donald Trump. The convention’s second night, under the theme “Leadership Matters,” aimed to make the case that Biden would represent a return to normalcy. “At a time like this, the Oval Office should be a command center,” former US President Bill Clinton said in a prerecorded video. “Instead, it’s a storm center. There’s only chaos. Just one thing never changes - his determination to deny responsibility and shift the blame.”With the four-day convention largely virtual due to the coronavirus, delegates from around the country cast votes remotely to confirm Biden as the nominee. I...

Abba Kyari’s Death, End Of A Surrogate Presidency, And The Coming Chaos By Kperogi

To say I was shocked by Abba Kyari's death would be to tell a lie. Being an asthmatic patient who routinely had "breathing problems" that necessitated periodic trips to London hospitals—in addition to being a diabetic who was older than 65—it would have been nothing short of miraculous if he survived COVID-19. In spite of who he was, especially the last five years of his life on earth, as a Muslim, I won't speak ill of him in death. But I won't write undeserving and deodorizing posthumous extolments of him, either. That would be as bad as, or even worse than, celebrating his death. With Kyari's death, Nigeria is now truly leaderless. Buhari is practically in the land of the living dead. He's a breathing mannequin whose only reason for living is to prove he isn't dead in order to ...

Nice Vs Marseille Match Suspended Due To Homophobic Chants And Banners

Nice’s first game since being taken over by Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe descended into chaos after it was temporarily suspended due to banners and chants. Clement Turpin, the referee for the Ligue 1 fixture against Marseille, went to speak with Nice boss Patrick Vieira before concluding the game needed to be halted for 10 minutes while the issue with the supporters behind one of the goals was sorted. ‘We can’t stop a game every time some idiots do something, otherwise we’ll never play, it’s nonsense,’ Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien told Canal+ during the stoppage in play. Concerns were raised five minutes before the decision was made to temporarily suspend the match as the stadium announcer looked toplead with supporters to end insulting behaviour. ‘We ask you to s...

Referee Orosco Sparks Chaos After Using Fake VAR To Award Penalty

A referee has sparked chaos in a League match after appearing to award a controversial penalty using VAR, despite the technology not being available in the league. The spot-kick, given right at the death in a clash between top-flight sides Club Always Ready and Bolivar, was signalled for by referee Raul Orosco after consultation with the fourth official. But footage has now emerged of the moment he mistakenly used the VAR gesture as an explanation for the decision. Referee Orosco does appear to realise his mistake mid-way through the gesture, although the last-gasp reprieve for the hosts just moments before the final whistle wasn't overturned. Outrage from Bolivar's players then forced riot police to intervene on the pitch and defuse the situation. Watch Video ...

Nigerian Election Thrown Into Chaos As Buhari Suspends Country’s Top Judge – CNN

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has come under intense scrutiny for suspending his country's Chief Justice just weeks before a general election, a move that critics have attacked as tyrannical and unconstitutional. Buhari defended his decision on Twitter, saying corruption allegations against Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen -- who has been accused of failing to disclose bank accounts in foreign currencies -- are "grievous." But the move was labelled a "coup against democracy" by the President of the Nigerian Senate, and prompted an outcry from the country's major opposition party, which halted its presidential election campaign in protest. Describing the action as a "dangerous and brazen assault on the constitution," the Campaign Council of the opposition People's Democratic...

Conor McGregor Defeated By Khabib Nurmagomedov As UFC 229 Ends In Chaos

Earlier this morning, Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor in an epic UFC 229 bout making the Irishman tap out, he then jumped out of the octagon to attack Conor's team.     Remember, Conor and his band of thugs attacked Khabib's bus at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn back in April  after an incident between Khabib and Conor's teammate Artem Lobov. Back then Conor famously threw a steel dolly at the bus while trying to provoke Khabib to step outside and fight.   Conor was arrested for the attack and Khabib said if Conor wanted to fight, "send me the location."     But tonight, Khabib was the better fighter, dominating Conor in basically every facet of the fight at UFC 229 that took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. He ultimately choked Conor out in the 4th rou...

x If Not For Saraki, National Assembly Would Have Been In Chaos – Goodluck Jonathan

A former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday commended Senate President Bukola Saraki for the kind of leadership he has provided for the National Assembly. Mr Jonathan spoke when the senate president paid him a courtesy visit at his Maitama Office in Abuja. He said the tremendous support being enjoyed by Mr Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives testifies to his leadership ability. “Senate President, let me use this opportunity to commend your leadership abilities. Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone. “I am quite pleased with the kind of relationship ...

An All Progressives Grand Alliance Chieftain, Chief Onwuka Ukwa, has advised the Indigenous People of Biafra to stop the no-election-in-Anambra State threat and avoid plunging the state into chaos. Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick has resigned from his position as chief executive of the $68bn ride-hailing app following a tumultuous six months of scandal. Kalanick stepped down in the face of pressure from five of Uber’s largest investors, according to the New York Times. Kalanick will, however, stay on the company’s board. “I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight,” Kalanick said in a statement to the New York Times. The resignation comes just one week after Kalanick began an indefinite leave of absence amid efforts to bring about wholesale change of Uber’s corporate culture.
