I Acted On Ex-President Jonathan’s Instructions on $1.3 Billion NNPC Cash – Diezani Alison-Madueke

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Thursday, said she acted on the instructions of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in directing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to release $1.3billion to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). She said it was not within the power or discretion of any minister to question or disregard the written directive of a president. The ex-minister made the clarifications through a statement by her Media Adviser, Mr. Clem Aguiyi, against the backdrop of the ongoing probe of the withdrawal of $1.3billion from the accounts of NNPC to fight kidnapping and other security threats in the Niger Delta. Although about $1.4billion was requested by the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) via three memos, f...

Tour Reveals Shady Nigerian Cash Behind London Luxury Homes

In a bid to expose the murky Nigerian money lurking behind some of London’s most high-end properties, anti-corruption campaigners are offering an unusual property tour of the British capital. As the coach carrying journalists and campaigners winds through luxurious west London, experts revealed the hidden world of misused public funds, unexplained wealth and the British “enablers” who make it happen. The coach’s first stop was the multi-million pound home of “one of the biggest political movers” currently operating in Nigeria, who was named in the so-called “Panama Papers” leak that revealed the holders of offshore accounts in the tax haven. One of the expert guides, journalist and author Oliver Bullough, said London had become the “Death Star” of global kleptocracy, which he defi...

Court Commences Trial-Within-Trial Of INEC Official Over Diezani Alison-Madueke’s N23bn Bribe

A prosecution witness, Tosin Owobo, on Wednesday told a Federal High Court in Lagos that Christian Nwosu, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission accused of receiving N30 million bribe, was never induced to make a statement. Nwosu was said to have received the money as part of a N23 billion bribe allegedly given by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to some officers of INEC. The gratification was alleged to be geared at compromising electoral officers ahead the 2015 general election. The accused had earlier pleaded guilty to collecting the money, and sought for a plea bargain arrangement with EFCC. However, due to the judge’s rejection of the terms of the agreement, Nwosu changed his plea from “guilty” to “not guilty”. He w...

Justice Rilwan Aikawa of Federal High Court in Lagos will on October 30 hear an application by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, seeking to be joined as defendant in a money laundering suit. The former minister is seeking to be joined as defendant in a N500 million fraud charge slammed on a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dele Belgore. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had also joined in the charge a former Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman. In essence, Alison-Madueke wants the court to compel the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to bring her back to Nigeria from UK, where she has been since 2015, to put up her defence in the case. The EFCC had in a five-count amended charge named ...

Charly Boy-Led Group Demands Diezani’s Repatriation

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, on Monday led a protest to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja to demand the repatriation of Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum resources, from the UK to Nigeria. The protesters, who converged on the premises of the anti-graft agency, wielded a banner which comically read, ‘Bring Back Diezani Alison-Madueke’. Two weeks ago, Charly Boy led a series of protests to demand that President Muhammadu Buhari either resume office or resign. In one of the protests, his group – Our Mumu Don Do – was attacked by hoodlums at Wuse market in the federal capital territory. Alison-Madueke, who served in the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, has been linked to several corruption cases....

US May Set Its Sights On Alison-Madueke

A former U.S. State Department specialist, Mathew Page, has suggested that the U.S. civil forfeiture case to seize $144 million of assets from two cronies of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, might just be the start of her legal troubles with America. The U.S. Justice Department last week filed an asset recovery case in Houston against Jide Omokore and Kola Aluko, both directors of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept (AEDC) and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Ltd (AEBD), seeking the seizure of luxury property, including a New York apartment and super-yacht, bought by Aluko. The two businessmen, to the detriment of Nigerian treasury, were heavily favoured by Alison-Madueke during her tenure as Nigeria’s oil minister, leading to the approval of a S...

Tinubu: “Saraki And El-Rufai Instigated Buhari Not To Pick Me As VP”

A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has alleged that Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, worked against the plan to make him President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election. Tinubu stated that Saraki, El-Rufai and other stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, who defected to the APC in the build-up to the 2015 elections, instigated Buhari and some APC chieftains not to pick him as the would-be Vice-President. The APC leader’s comments were contained in a book titled ‘Against the Run of Play,’ written by the Chairman, Editorial Board of ThisDay, Olusegun Adeniyi. Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, said his opponents persuaded Buhari to look for another r...
