Why Nnamdi Kanu Is Hiding – Federal Govt

The Federal Government on Tuesday told an Abuja Federal High Court that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnmadi Kanu, deliberately went into hiding to avoid the consequences of himself and his group. The Federal Government said this while urging the Acting Chief Judge of the High Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, to dismiss the motion IPOB filed to quash the proscription order. Represented by the Solicitor General of the Federation, Dayo Akpata, the Federal Government insisted that there was no bloody onslaught in Kanu’s house during the Operation Python Dance II, adding that it was not responsible for the whereabouts of the IPOB leader. Fed Govt Writes To US, UK, Others About IPOB Proscription

The Federal Government has formally notified the governments of the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other foreign countries about the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and the designation of the group as a terrorist organisation. The Federal High Court in Abuja had, on August 20, made an order proscribing the group upon an ex parte application by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN). The proscription order was published in the Federal Government’s gazette on the same day it was issued. The US and the UK had indicated that they did not consider IPOB a terrorist group. Names of some high profile individuals being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been revealed. The Punch, in a report, said a list it obtained contained the names of Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen; Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State; his predecessor and the current Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; and the immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
