PDP Says Villa Feud Shows Incompetence, Disorganization In Buhari Presidency

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes the dirty public fight between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and President Muhammadu Buhari’s cousins, over rooms in the Presidential villa, as disgraceful and further underlines the managerial ineptitude and leadership failures of the Buhari Presidency

The party says the chaos in the Villa further exposes the Buhari Presidency’s poor management of issues and highlights why it has failed monumentally in delivering on any of its responsibilities in governance, thus leaving our dear nation in a shambolic situation in the last five years.

The feud further uncovers the impunity, disorderliness and vanity that pervade the Buhari Presidency and how the once serious and productive seat of power has been turned into a house of comedy and an overcrowded quarter for illegal occupants.

Nigerians can now see why it has become difficult for our nation to witness any stability or progress under the Buhari Presidency and why the Buhari-led Federal Government has been bedeviled by confusion, infighting, policy flip-flops, statutory violations, promotion of violence, ingrained corruption and administrative indolence while millions of Nigerians wallow in poverty and neglect.

Nigerians and the world can equally see why no one expects the Buhari Presidency to articulate any progressive idea or proffer and implement any solution to the myriad of economic and security problems it caused our nation; they can now see why there is no hope in sight and why compatriots are daily agitating for a new order.

Our party notes that our dear nation has suffered enough disgrace from the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP therefore charges President Buhari to immediately apologize to Nigerians for his failures and be ready to vacate office for more competent hands, since it has become obvious that he is leading our country to nowhere.

Furthermore, the PDP urges the National Assembly to investigate the alleged abuse of office by President Buhari following revelation that he assigns official facilities in the Presidential villa to unauthorized persons that have no official roles in governance, and apply appropriate sanctions.

The PDP also urges the National Assembly to sanitize the Presidential villa by probing allegations of illegal allotment of offices and apartments to unauthorized persons, including scammers and corruption fronts in Aso Rock.

The party however urges Nigerians to remain calm as such provocative and disgraceful developments will soon come to an end with the retrieval of our stolen mandate at the Supreme Court.

Sowore: DSS Invasion Of Court #Nextlevel Of Dictatorship, Impunity- Timi Frank

Published

By

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, Sunday, described the invasion of the Federal High Court Abuja, by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) to re-arrest the #RevolutionNow Convener, Omoyele Sowore, as the implementation of General Muhammadu Buhari’s #NextLevel of dictatorship and impunity.

Frank who strongly condemned the gestapo attack and flagrant desecration of the nation’s Temple of Justice, urged Nigerians to be alarmed over the total disregard for the rule of law and fundamental human rights of Nigerians by the present administration.

He said what happened in court on Friday is a consummation of the complete annexation of both the legislature and the judiciary by Buhari-led executive.

Frank said: “We have seen the DSS invade the home of Justices at midnight. We have seen the invasion of the National Assembly by the DSS. We have seen the sack of a Chief Justice of Nigeria by this administration.

“We have seen the hand picking of Presiding Officers for the ninth National Assembly. What further evidence do we need to conclude that this is total dictatorship and reign of impunity rather than democracy and rule of law?”

He said that Sowore’s ordeal represents the greater ordeal Nigerians have been facing since 2015 and will continue to face in the hands of Buhari.

He warned that the current push to pass the Social Media and Hate Speech Bills is a direct conspiracy between the executive and legislature to criminalize rightful dissent in the face of unlawful government practices.

“Why has the National Assembly not introduced a Bill to hang looters? They cannot do this because they know some of their members and those in the executive will be the first victims of such a law.

“They are after the common man on the street who may be dissatisfied with their dictatorial style and kleptomaniac tendencies,” Frank declared.

He wondered why the Presidency was quick to condemn the attack on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi in Spain but failed to condemn the renewed assault against the nation’s judiciary by the DSS.

He further wondered why the CJN and the AGF have failed to censure the unholy and brazen attack on a court of law.

“The invasion of Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu’s court and attempts to surreptitiously deal with the learned Justice for granting Sowore bail must be condemned by all,” he said

He accused Buhari of desperation to hang on to power at all cost even if it means the declaration of martial law and the total subjugation of the people.

“After the total pacification of Nigerians through the gagging of the media with the Hate Speech and Social Media laws, Nigeria will become a police state where inalienable freedoms will be completely suspended.

“The people are being bludgeoned into silence by security forces. Very soon it would be a silence of the grave, if care is not taken,” he warned.

He urged Nigerians to speak up or risk a worsened situation as the plot to grant Buhari a third term in office takes root.

“While US Senators have joined in helping to preserve democracy in Nigeria by their strong condemnation of the court invasion and re-arrest of Sowore by the DSS, our own ‘rubber stamp’ legislature has not deemed it fit to stand up for democracy in the country,” he lamented.

He also called on the United States and the European Union to prevail on China and other international financial institutions to stop granting loans to Nigeria which are being amassed by the present administration to finance an illegal third term bid.

“Lovers of democracy across the world must not keep silent and watch democracy in Nigeria go down the drain of dictatorship once again,” he said.

Senate Says Kalu’s Seat Won’t Be Declared Vacant Yet

Published

on

By

The Senate on Friday ruled out the possibility of declaring vacant, the seat of its Chief Whip, Senator Orji Kalu, following his conviction by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment over a N7.1bn fraud charges against him since 2007 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Mohammed Idris, 12 years after the EFCC filed the suit against him.

Kalu was convicted alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and Jones Udeogu, who served under him as the director of finance and account at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia.

Reacting to the calls on the leadership of the Senate to declare his seat vacant, the Spokesperson for the red chamber, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, said it was not possible.

He said such a request would only be considered after the embattled senator had explored all the legal options available to him without success.

Akwashiki argued that the constitution of Nigeria does not mandate the Senate President to unilaterally declare the seat of any senator facing prosecution or convicted by a lower court, vacant.

He said, “The Senate has no reason to declare his seat vacant. This is not the first time that such a thing would happen.

“There is no provision in the constitution that says the seat of any senator facing prosecution or convicted at a lower court should be declared vacant.

“He still has the opportunity to appeal the case.

“Even the tenure of a former governor Joshua Dariye, who has been in prison for some time now, ran its course until the end of the 8th National Assembly. Nobody declared his seat vacant.

“The Senate President cannot declare the seat of Kalu vacant. It is against the law.

“Tell those who are canvassing such things that there is nothing like that, it is a non-issue,” the Senate spokesperson added.

On whether Kalu will continue to receive salaries while in prison, Akwashiki said the National Assembly bureaucracy determines the payment of senators based on the template from the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission.

He therefore directed our correspondent to liaise with the management of the federal parliament for its decision on the issue.

Attempts to speak with the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani- Omolori, through the Director of Information, Mr. Rawlings Agada, failed on Friday.

Repeated calls made to his mobile phone did not connect while he had yet to reply the text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
