La Liga President Reacts as CAS Overturns Manchester City’s Ban

La Liga president, Javier Tebas, has reacted to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), to overturn Manchester City’s two-year ban from European competitions on Monday.

The ruling means Man City will play in the Champions League next season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also had their fine reduced from £25million to £8.9million.

The former Premier League champions had been banned by UEFA for breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, but have had the decision overturned by CAS.

Reacting, Tebas hit out at the CAS by claiming that the institution is no longer fit to serve its role in facilitating the settlement of football-related disputes.

He also called on the sport to look at other avenues for resolving matters such as breaches of FFP rules.

“We have to reassess whether the CAS is the appropriate body to which to appeal institutional decisions in football,” Tebas was quoted by Independent UK as saying on Monday.

“Switzerland is a country with a great history of arbitration, the CAS is not up to standard.”
