The Managing Director, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Mr. John Donnachie, has said the major challenges facing the company are the high rate of illegal connection by its customers, vandalism and liquidity issues, The Punch reports.
A statement on Wednesday quoted Donnachie to have said this during a visit by members of the Committee on Power, House of Representatives to the headquarters of the IBEDC in Ibadan on Tuesday. He said, “We would need N100bn to fix metering problems in the IBEDC. We will also need thousands of transformers today if we want to fix all requests on transformer problems.”
The Chairman, Committee on Power, House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Asuquo, said the committee visited to carry out its oversight function following a quarterly report submitted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The lawmakers also interacted with the IBEDC’s customers at a meeting and listened to their complaints across the coverage areas of the power firm.
