Former Liverpool midfielder, Graeme Souness, has rated the club’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
Souness said Liverpool are definitely not out of the Premier League title race despite their 1-0 defeat to Burnley in the Premier League on Thursday night.
Asley Barnes’ late penalty gave Burnley the victory over Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield.
The result means Liverpool are now six points adrift of leaders, Manchester United on the Premier League table.
Asked whether he believes Liverpool can still win the title this season, Souness told Sky Sports: “For all that doom and gloom I can still remember being at Liverpool when we lost to Man City on Boxing Day and went 12th in the league.
“We still won it at the end of the year. Liverpool is six points adrift. They are definitely not out of it.
“They could put a run together against Leicester, Man City and Spurs and suddenly they are back on the horse, and they look like they can win it again.
“But you have to say they have been way off it. You don’t need me to tell you they are not the same team as they were last year.”
Liverpool’s next game is against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday.
