The two-year-old rescue dog is from a breed of naturally long dogs, said owner Monique Morsink. But Ketama's proportions are more male than female. Spanish greyhounds, or sighthounds, were bred for their speed and sleek bodies to help with hunting and for racing. Sadly, just like their English cousins, the Spanish greyhound can fall prey to human cruelty. But thankfully ...

Having no luck with the Find My iPhone app, he tried calling his mobile on another device. The following day, Saturday, September 12, he was shocked to find his phone after hearing a ringtone coming from a jungle near his house. Rare Mutant Two-Headed Rattlesnake Found In Arizona, US

Snake wrangler Greyson Getty from Phoenix, Arizona, in the US, was called to clear out a den of the killer reptiles when he found the four-eyed creature among them. “It was incredibly exciting,” said Mr Getty. “I had already removed four adult rattlesnakes and seven other freshly-born baby rattlesnakes from that hole. “Even for a seasoned professional such as myself, that’s already a pretty adrenaline-packed way to start your morning. “So to then pull out a two-headed rattlesnake which, dead or alive, is incredibly rare, had me absolutely overcome with excitement. “It was such a crazy once in a lifetime observation that I couldn’t even ha...

Kaavan, “World’s Loneliest Elephant” Regains Freedom After 35 years in chains

For more than 35 years all Kaavan the elephant had known were chains and 'mental torment'. Eight years ago the bull elephant, who has spent his life at the Maraghazar Zoo in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, was left totally alone when his companion, Saheli, died. The two elephants had shared an enclosure since 1990, but in 2012 Kaavan was left all alone. After it emerged Kaavan was reportedly tied up at all times, hundreds of thousands of people signed a petition for him to be given a new home, where he would be better cared for. Four years ago, zoo bosses insisted Kaavan was no longer chained but his long-awaited new mate never arrived and the elephant was forced to spend all his time alone. How The World’s Most Dangerous Bird, Cassowary Got Its Unique Feathers

It's been called the world's most dangerous bird. Its long dagger-like middle toes, in fact, were responsible for the death of a man in Florida last year. But what excites scientists about the cassowary — a large, emu-like, flightless bird — is its distinctive look. With its black iridescent feathered body, its blue, turquoise and magenta neck and horned crest or casque, it's been described as looking like a "high-fashion dinosaur." "It's a little over a meter tall. It's pretty heavy. Their bones are dense. They definitely can cause some damage," said Chad Eliason, a staff scientist and postdoctoral fellow at the Field Museum in Chicago and an author of a new paper on the giant bird that published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances. The southern cassowary can inflict seri...

Two Headed Snake Found In India, Baffles Wildlife Experts (Photos)

Startling footage shows a rare two-headed snake which has baffled wildlife experts. Incredibly each of the heads compete against each other for food - meaning such serpents do not usually live long. The distinctive reptile was found in the Dhenkikot forest range of Keonjhar wildlife sanctuary in Odisha, eastern India. The newborn was discovered by Rakesh Mohalick, and was identified as a Wolf Snake - which is a non-venomous species. Photographer Rakesh said: "One among the two heads is slightly more developed and both are known to fight over food." The snake is 14cm long and has two fully formed heads, meaning it has four working eyes and two flickering tongues. Both its heads work independently and this becomes a challenge for such creatures to survive in the wild, acc...

Scientists Have Discovered An Animal That Doesn’t Need Oxygen To Live

Atkinson co-authored a paper on the groundbreaking, less than 10-called Henneguya Salminicola that appeared in the journal PNAS this week. "When we think of 'animals,' we picture multicellular creatures that need oxygen to survive, unlike many single-celled organisms including protists and bacteria. In our work, we have shown that there is at least one multicellular animal that does not have the genetic toolkit to use oxygen." The H. salminicola is a myxozoan cnidarian, a type of animal related to jellyfish and coral. It lives inside salmon and "steals ready-made nutrients from it, instead of consuming oxygen directly" Atkinson said. The team's findings, he said, expand the definition of what an "animal" can be. It's pretty epic stuff for such a diminutive creature. It Does...
