BBC Africa in the second entry for its #BBCAfricaEye documentary series reveals shocking footage of over 100 referees and officials taking cash before matches.

The documentary is a product of undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas‘s secret filming.

The documentary reveals that over 150 payments were made in total and they occurred before Ghanaian Premiere League, the Champions League, and major international competitions.

Anas’ secret filming include materials surrounding the WAFU tournament in 2017. Match official Ebrima Jallo of Gambia was filmed taking $500 from undercover journalists who claimed to be football fans. Jallo seemed to imply that this kind of activity (taking cash “gifts”) is common.

Range Marwa of Kenya was also filmed taking $600 from undercover journalists posing as Ghanaian football officials. Marwa was due to be officiating as an assistant referee in Russia. Marwa, according to FIFA later resigned from officiating at the World Cup.

Jallo and Marwa denied any wrongdoing.

The documentary targeted Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of Ghanaian Football Association, and he was filmed taking a gift of $65,000 from journalists with the belief that they were meeting to discuss a sponsorship deal.

Nyantakyi did not respond to comments. However, FIFA told the BBC that it is investigating the report.

Arsenal assistant coach Per Mertesacker was seen in a heated exchange with Mesut Ozil at the end of last night’s defeat at Brighton.

The loss means Arsenal are on their worst run of form for 42 YEARS and the German pair were clearly not happy about it.

The defeat means the Gunners have not won in nine and the last time they went ten without a win was way back in March 1977.

Goals from Adam Webster and Neal Maupay either side of Alexandre Lacazette’s equaliser meant the North Londoners slip to tenth in the table.

And the angry feeling was clearly too much for Ozil as he was seen shouting and gesticulating at his former international and club team-mate.
