Hughes Praises Aguero & Recalls Title Winning Moment: I Felt Like Putting Fingers In Ears

Hughes was in the Queens Park Rangers dugout when Aguero struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time on the final day of the 2011-12 season to seal City’s first Premier League title in a moment of incredible drama. Aguero’s strike, to earn a 3-2 win send Manchester United into second on goal difference, prompted Martin Tyler’s famous commentary and Hughes has recalled how the whole Etihad seemed to let out an astonished roar. Aguero broke Eric Brook’s City scoring record from the 1930s with a goal against Napoli on Wednesday night. 'It’s all about records with strikers and Aguero’s record stands comparison with any in the Premier League,’ said the Stoke manager and former United centre forward. 'He’s a great player. I love watching him work. He hasn’t been there a great time but in tha...

Sanchez To United: Mourinho Wants To Snatch Arsenal Star From Man City

The Manchester United boss has been quoted a £25million signing-on fee for the Arsenal striker, who will be a free agent next summer. Sanchez cannot sign an official pre-contract with the Red Devils until the new year as it is an internal transfer between two clubs in the Premier League. But an agreement could be put in place for the deal to go through. City tried to get Sanchez in the summer but had a final bid of £60m rejected. The Chile superstar, 28, wanted the switch to the Etihad but his advisers also sounded out United at the time. Many at City were surprised boss Pep Guardiola went for Sanchez in the summer, given that would mean dropping one of Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus. That pair have struck up a great understanding on the pitch this season, which may mean City will re...

Australia Terror Plot: Isis Plane Bomb Suspect ‘Planted Device On Brother’

Two men facing terrorism charges in Australia were involved in an aborted attempt to place an improvised explosive device on an Etihad Airways flight out of Sydney last month in a plot directed by the Islamic State group, police said Friday. One of the men, a 49-year-old from Sydney, brought the device to Sydney airport on July 15 in a piece of luggage that he had asked his brother to take with him on the flight — without telling the brother that the bag contained explosives, Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Michael Phelan told reporters. But for reasons still unclear, the bag never got past the check-in counter. Instead, Phelan said, the man left the airport with the bag, and his brother continued onto the flight without it. "This is one of the most sophisticated plo...

UN Agency To Review Airspace Blockade Against Qatar

The United Nations aviation agency has said it will review requests from Qatar to intervene after its Gulf neighbours closed their airspace to Qatar flights. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a UN agency that regulates international air travel under the Chicago Convention, said it would host talks of envoys from Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt at its Montreal headquarters on Thursday to seek a “consensus-based solution” that addressed “current regional concerns.” “ICAO is presently reviewing requests from the government of Qatar to assess the flight restrictions imposed upon it by neighboring states,” according to an ICAO statement. ICAO, which was created after the United States invited more than 50 allies to agree to a common air navigation sy...

Gulf Blockade Disrupts Qatar Airways Flights

Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have closed their airspace to Qatari aircraft on Tuesday amid a deepening diplomatic row, forcing Qatar’s flag carrier to re-route its flights over Iran, Turkey and Oman. The decision by the four Arab nations to sever diplomatic ties and cut off sea and air links with Qatar has caused major disruptions to air travel across the Gulf, and raised fears for future of aviation in the region – home to several of the world’s major long-haul carriers. The countries that launched the measures against Qatar have accused it of supporting “terrorism”, a claim Qatar has called “unjustified”. More than 70 flights were grounded across the region on Tuesday, according to data from scheduling firm OAG. A majority of the flights belong to Qatar ...
