Suspected Thief Set Ablaze In Delta For Snatching Phone With Toy Gun (Graphic)

A suspected thief was beaten to death and set ablaze by a mob in Idjerhe community, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday morning, November 24. It was gathered that the suspect, who was part of a two-man gang accosted a lady with a toy gun and snatched her mobile phone and undisclosed sum of money. When the victim discovered that it was a toy gun, she raised the alarm and the suspected robbers fled. The alarm attracted the attention of the a mob in the area, who pursued the suspects. They caught one of them, beat him to death before setting his body ablaze. Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident. See graphic photos below.

Domestic Debts Of 36 States, FCT Hit N3.5trn In H1’18

The Debt Management Office (DMO), yesterday, said the domestic debt stock of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stood at N3.5 trillion as at the first half of 2018 (H1’18). The figure indicates that the states and FCT increased their debt stock by about N200 billion or 6.0 percent over the N3.3 trillion recorded at the end of December 2017. According to data released by DMO on its website, Lagos State has the highest debt stock at N517 billion or 17 percent of the total debt stock of states. The data showed the domestic debt stock of the other states among the top five during the period under review are: Delta (N223 billion), Rivers (N191 billion), Akwa Ibom (N179 billion), and Osun (N136 billion). NCDC: Lassa Fever Death Toll Rises To 101

The death toll from the Lassa fever disease ravaging the country since the beginning of the year has risen to 101, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said. The health agency, in its situation report of April 8, said 408 cases of the disease had been confirmed from 20 states, where the disease has been active. The Economic and Financial crimes commission has frozen 30 bank accounts tied to Dr. Ngozi Olojeme, the deputy chairman, Finance committee of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign organization in the 2015 general elections. This is arising barely 3 months after 37 houses linked to Olojeme were seized by the anti-graft commission. Olojeme was the chairman of the Nigerian social insurance trust fund from 2009 to 2015. Health minister Isaac Adewole Monday announced that the outbreak of Lassa fever has spread to 15 states, recording 31 deaths. He added that there had been 105 laboratory confirmed cases and three probable cases.
